Have to agree with previous poster. As a returning visitor I was terribly disappointed by the fall in standards. A hotel that once had a lovely tradition and warm welcome has become cold and tired. The reception area is bright and modern but the corridors are shabby and worn. The breakfast tables were not set and the guests had to get their own cutlery, napkins, glasses and cups etc. The quality of the cooked breakfast was fine. Tea and coffee were self-served from big pots. The room was clean and the more expensive executive room was nicely decorated. The hotel is excellently located, on the bus route to airport and city centre. Parking is charged and according to the signs is 10 euro for 24 hrs payable at a machine in the hotel lobby. Such a pity is seems to have lost what we enjoyed about staying there in the past.

Room Tip: Executive room - more modern

We stayed in the regency overnight on 16th Feb as part of their one night spa deal. The deal was very reasonable and 8 of us booked. Another decided to join our party and rang to change the booking. She was told that her spa treatment could be booked on arrival even though the others had already booked. When we arrived they had no record of her booking and she was told there was no chance of booking a treatment that day. Some of our party had to wait a few hours for their rooms. The spa was understaffed and working on a first come first served basis, regardless of bookings. The dinner that evening was a disaster. Three of our party are vegetarian and were handed an enormous bowl of overcooked pasta which consisted of the leftover vegetables from the kitchen that are not usually part of a pasta dish e.g. Chickpeas and olives. The bedrooms were clean and quite nice and the entertainment in the bar was enjoyable. Breakfast next morning was another disaster. They were extremely short staffed and guests even had to collect their own cutlery. The queue for cooked breakfast, including toast, was extremely long. The full Irish breakfast included cocktail sausages and all food was cold. The continental breakfast was a limited choice of cereal, tinned fruit and wheaten bread. Tea and coffee were again self service but came in large flasks. On the whole, as returning guests, we were very disappointed with how the standard in the hotel has fallen and I would be reluctant to return.

Sat. 23rd Feb., 2013 was a fantastic, memorable night at the Regency. It was the occasion of the Donegal Person of the Year Annual Ball. This year the honour of being the Donegal person of the year was awarded to the Manager of the Donegal Gaelic Football team - Jim Mc Guinness. In Sept., 2012 Jim's team won the All Ireland Football Final bringing the coveted Sam Maguire Cup back to Donegal, bringing honour, pride and hope to beautiful Donegal! A lovely dinner was served to all the 800 guests. There was a very good choice courses and was finished off with mints and petit fours - a meal enjoyed by all. Mary B and her band from Donegal entertained us superbly and everyone danced the night away! The Mc Gettigan family who own the hotel looked after everyone so well. We spent the night in the hotel. Our room was spacious and comfortable, lovely and clean with plenty of soft, white fluffy towels supplied.
Our breakfast the next morning didn't disappoint either. A great selection of cereals, fruit, yogurts and the full Irish breakfast etc. was second to none. Afterwards there was a group playing music in the lounge which was enjoyed by all of us, who were a bit bleary eyed after the very late night before!! As usual Martin Mc Gettigan was making sure everyone was having a good time and was looking after us extremely well. What a hospitable and welcoming experience! All the staff are so helpful and friendly. If you need a place to stay in Dublin ( it's within easy reach of Dublin airport too) look no further - their room rates are very competitive. We will be making a return visit there soon - a home from home. Check it out for yourselves.

Stayed here for one night and even at that was one night too long. When we got there we wanted to get something small to eat as we were getting food later on. The guide in the room said the room should have a menu, no menu to be found. My partner went down to the bar and asked for a toasted brown bread sandwich. He was then told there was no brown bread and the toaster didn't work!!!!
The carpet in the room was filthy & in parts threadbare. Room was in bad need of updating with a television at least 20 years old with 3 stations on it. Horrible view out the window but it was the noise that got to me more, it was constant while we were there. Either a refrigeration unit or air conditioning unit of some sort.
Car park cost €6 per 24 hours.
Cannot emphasise enough how much we disliked it.

As I was only using this hotel for somewhere to sleep while spending 2 nights in dublin I can't complain, staff seemed friendly enough on reception and when in passing saying hello. My room was good clean and although when out the window there was not view that wasn't a problem for me as was dark when there anyway.i paid under £50 for two nights so not complaining about price as thought this was a good deal I can't comment on facilities as didn't use them yes at night on the Saturday you could hear the music but most hotels you would get this didn't bother me. Location I thought was good. half way between the airport and the city with frequent bus service we got a number 16 from the airport and the bus driver was very helpful in pointing out our stop as was dark.but there are a number of buses that go to city just a tip on a Sunday check time table so not waiting around for a bus if leave early.
Overall I would recommend this hotel if using as somewhere to sleep

Stayed in this hotel for six nights, and generally found it to be okay until the final night when a function in the hotel caused a sleepless night for many guests.

The hotel is showing its age, and does need some serious refurbishment and modernisation. On the positive side, we found the food to be excellent, and generally the staff seemed friendly and helpful. Our problems started on the final night of our stay.

A function had been arranged for a local organisation in a room with an exit door directly across the corridor from our room. Our understanding is that this door was normally only for staff use.

With a long journey the next day we wanted to get a reasonable early night, but the disco was extremely loud - more so when the door was continually being left open. Okay - we put it down to experience and trusted that the disco would go on to perhaps midnight, one at the latest. We found out the next morning that it was in fact supposed to finish at 1am.

All night we had to put up with people milling round in the corridor outside our room, gradually getting louder as time went on. 1am passed by and people were still shouting and singing, at 1.30am we had a glass crash against our room door, and then a few minutes later we could hear the mess being cleared up. At 2pm we had a conga line go passed the room, and later we had a loud rendition of "New York, New York".

The noise continued until after 3am when I eventually called reception to ask how long this was going to go on for. I gather that they sent a member staff over to try and clear the corridor, but that was just met with more noise, and abuse.

Finally, around 3.30am people started to leave the hotel - although I gather that staff were having problems with stragglers until after 4am.

The next morning I spoke to the manager who confirmed that the function was supposed to end at 1am, but that they lost control of things and eventually had to get security to unplug the disco equipment. I asked why people, who were not hotel guests, were allowed to roam free in the corridor outside where guests were trying to sleep. His answer was that the hotel was badly designed - which was rather a poor response since all it would have taken was for some security staff to properly manage the function and stop people roaming round the hotel causing trouble.

I would also question why the bar remained open so late, when clearly they had a large number of very drunk people. I can only assume that the money being taken over the bar was such that a few guest complaints were considered a minor irritation.

I was assured that "nine times out of ten" the hotel does not have such problems with functions, but to my view that indicates it is not THAT rare. On the managers argument you can also deduce that one in ten functions could present similar problems.

On the positive side, the first five nights at the hotel (during the week) were quiet and enjoyable. The final night was horrendous, and was not the best preparation for a 250 mile journey the next day.

I gather that there were numerous complaints that morning from other guests, many who were families with children on the floor above ours. We did get a refund that was roughly equivalent to one nights stay, but my advice would be that if you wish to stay at this hotel make sure you get a room well away from any of its function rooms.

Room Tip: Ensure you get a room well away from function rooms.
