“The Perfect Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2012

I think some people forget that this is a budget hotel and therefore offers incredible value for money. Firstly, ignore any negative reviews! You must really question the expectations of some people, for as long as you not expecting five star luxuries on a budget, this is the PERFECT stay for a short stop in Dublin.

The staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly, they really couldn't do enough for us. The rooms were basic, but tidy and cleaned daily. Complimentary tea making facilities and bathroom gels available. This is not a negative, because it didn't effect me personally, but if you're a light sleeper expect a bit of noise if you're at the front of the hotel because you located on a main/busy road.

The hotel bar was brilliant, with an incredibly charismatic barman who couldn't do enough for us. Plenty of atmosphere and a welcome stop before heading out in to the city. And a welcome return in our case when we arrived back!

The location is perfect and in walking distance to everything, you really can't find much better.

A beautiful city, with fantastic people and made all the better for coming back to a clean accommodating hotel on the night. Already have plans to return and will most definitely be staying with the Maple Hotel.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, perhaps ask for a room located at the rear of the hotel.

The hotel was clean, the location wasn't too bad. We had to walk outside and down this nasty/dirty area to get to our room. I can't put my finger on it, but just didn't feel the safest. Hours for breakfast aren't convenient if you're going on a tour, and it was located across the street. I wasn't able to try it, so can't comment on the quality of breakfast. Would not stay at this location if I were to visit Dublin again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room located in the main part of the hotel. Not sure if they were better, but I would ha...

Stayed at the Maple for a weekend in January 2012. To be honest this is more of a hostel or very low rated hotel. The staff are very friendly - no complaint there. The bar was quite cold but the bar manager went and found us a heater. Lower Gardiner Street is in the not so posh end of town. One taxi driver laughed when we said where we were staying. However, it was fine ! I actually went all the way to O'Connell street at 11pm to get some milk form the all night shop and not a problem at all. Would I have done it sober - ummm probably not in that area. Room was large but the door was quite fiddly to lock. Must admit that was a concern. Bathroom clean and basic but OK. Beds too soft for me but again the beer helped. There was tea and coffee in the room but very small cups. y only real concern was the carpet stains. Not pleasant at all. Plus the same for the one chair in the room.
It is a fair walk to Temple Bar but OK if you need a work out before you sample the beer. We did the red tourist bus. Good value and the ticket lasts for 2 days. Two bustops on O'Connell street. Look or listen for man with umbrella. Cost 16 euro. Try and get the bus with the driver as guide. The other ones have a pre recorded tape - not nearly as good as the female guide- very funny !
To get from the airport -you can get the 41 bus from the airport, it's cheaper than the airport link bus but stops everywhere. My advice is to get the 747 which stops in O'Connell street then you walk down to the spire, turn left and walk 5 mins to Gardiner street. O'Sheas on the corner serves an excellent full, fresh breakfast with toast and coffee only for 6.95 euro. You wouldn't get that value in the posher part.
We got what we paid for and it was value for money. If you want 4 or 5 star then don't go here. But if you want a cheap, fiendly base then go to the Maple.
If it's on then go to Leopardstown races - great day out !

Room Tip: Make sure you are not downstairs - very noisy

Nice place to to stay, The staff and porters were very helpful and friendly. We had a fantastic time in the Bar (Ned Keenan;s) with lots of live Irish Trad and plenty of Craaaaaaaaaaaak as they say. Would definitively stay again.

It is true that you get what you pay for when it comes to hotels and accomodation. But with this in mind I was not prepared for the absolute nightmare that I had while staying in this "Hotel". Upon arrival at the Mapel the place seems clean and friendly enough and that is where it ends. Once entering the room the nightmare began. Firstly there was a smell of smoke in the room as the window was open prior to my arrival and people where standing in the alleway outside smoking, people had obviously smoked in the room as well due to the fag holes in the net curtains. This coupled with a huge damp patch in the roof and parts missing from nearly every piece of furniture in the room did not bode well.

With this I said that I only paid a small amount of money for my weeks stay and I could let it go. Fell asleep only to be woken by a screaming party of girls at 4 in the morning. Not that I am opposed to people having fun but when other people are sleeping there should be an amount of respect shown to guests. The staff don't seem to care one bit. Second night was fine as I didn't get in from the office until gone 11 so passed out. Third night was kep awake until 3 in the morning by some other party having a get together in the room behind. Lots of banging on the wall on my end made it quiet down, EVENTUALLY.

Then the worst came, Thursday night, awoken by banging and screaming. A couple arguing and screaming at each other, nothing new there. BUT when it gets to the point where the bloke is screaming at the top of his lungs about hitting the woman and challenging people to fight him it is absolutely ridiculous. Not one person on the staff checked the situation out. The man was either extremely drunk or very high, screaming obsenities at the top of his lungs and to be honest sounded like an extremely nasty individual.

I have stayed in many hotels from 5 star to Budget, but never in my experience has a place been so run down, shabby and quick to turn a blind eye, in my life. All this coupled with the fact that my sheets where changed once in 4 days would make me think that I would be better staying in a doss house than paying for a room here again.

Would recommend for
Loud unsocialble groups - who just want to get drunk and pass out
Homeless people who just want a bed ( not a sleep)
People who want to argue and fight and not be disturbed......

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE,,,,

Room Tip: Pay the extra tenner and stay somewhere nice........
