“Good location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

I stayed at this BW for two nights upon arrival to Dublin from US. Room 513. I would rate it good, but TA doesn't have that option. The hotel staff was very accommodating. All of my requests had positive results, including early checkin after flight. The bathroom toiletries exceeded expectations. Two terry bathrobes were thick and large. The room was smaller than average American hotel but adequate. Nice TV with clock/wakeup alarm function. The bed was comfortable and bedding was clean. Lighting in bathroom not so good for makeup application. Coffee is instant. There wasn't a peephole in the door- I had asked for a wakeup call and this came as a knock on the door. Use the TV for alarm. The Airlink bus stops across the street. I was a little confused when bus stopped in the dark early morning but bus driver was kind enough to point to hotel. Check out my 11 photos for more details. If you found my review helpful, please click on "yes." Thanks.

As a frequent business traveler to Dublin, I have come to regard this hotel as my veritable home from home. From the moment you walk into reception you are made to feel most welcome and this friendly and helpful atmosphere pervades the whole hotel, from management through to housekeeping.

The rooms are comfortable and well-appointed and maintained and cleaned to the highest standards. The breakfasts are hearty and good quality, as is the food in the pub restaurant.

For business or leisure this hotel cannot be recommended highly enough. Situated in a convenient position just off O'Connell Street, you are within an easy walk or short taxi ride of Dublin's best attractions. Give this hotel a try when next you visit Dublin - you won't be disappointed!

As this was our first visit to Dublin, we liked the hotel's central location and that it was directly across the street from a Hop On Hop Off bus stop. The Hop On Hop Off bus is a tour bus that allows tourists to visit several city attractions in one day. Our hotel room's size was quite a disappointment. You may have heard the expression, "We barely had enough room to turn around." That phrase aptly describes the size of our room. Nevertheless, our tiny room was modern, clean, and quiet. The hotel breakfasts were average, and the staff was friendly.

Room Tip: Ask to see room choices before you book.

We stayed here for 2 nights in November. It is very central to all in Dublin. Airport bus stops right outside the hotel, and all other buses including Hop on and off bus just around the corner. Not far to walk to Grafton Street and Temple bar etc, lots of bars and lively places to go. There is also a really nice and great atmosphered restaurant just at the end of the road and turn right and its up on the right hand side. Staff are great and the bar is a lovely place to start your evening off with a pre-dinner drink. All in All worth staying here.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 388 and found this to be a nice quiet room.

This hotel was clean and had a nice central location, but the tiny winding hallways with loud carpeting and tiny rooms with small windows that basically looked out on a glorified air shaft made me feel very claustrophobic. We were on the seventh floor and I kept thinking that if there were a fire in this hotel we would never get out alive.
We were there the night Ireland had a 6-0 loss to Germany in soccer at Aviva Stadium and it was a loud night in the hotel. We could smell people smoking in the hallway or next room, someone knocked on the door at 4 am, we could hear people talking in the hallways and other rooms like they were in our room and at some point an alarm of some kind went off. I don't know if this was all because of the soccer fans staying at the hotel, but be warned the rooms are no where near sound-proof.
Also, parking is down the block and across the street and there is no place to pull up to the front door of the hotel to drop off luggage. Don't bother with the breakfast buffet - you're better with a cup of tea and a pastry from Bewley's.
Perhaps this hotel suffered in comparison, as we had just left the fabulous G Hotel in Galway, but after one night at the Academy Plaza I was more than ready to go home.

Room Tip: I would pick a lower floor, if there were a next time.

Just came back from two nights stay we caught the 747 airlink bus which you catch right outside the terminal and pay for your tickets there also which are manned ticket boofs €10 adult return €5 child return and this doesn't have to be used the same day bus stops opposite the hotel. Hotel is clean rooms are small but for all the positives this hotel offers i think it's nothing to complain to much about, rooms are spotless beds so comfy! free safety deposit box dove hand wash lux shampoo/shower gel which is much nicer than the usual you get in most other hotel rooms wifi is not great in the rooms but they offer use of 2 computers in the lobby we didn't pay for breakfast here as it was pricey for what they offered so we ate at eddies dinner(American themed) this is about a 5min walk along oconnel St same side as the old post office, alday breakfast with tea or coffee €8.50 also we ate here for dinner one evening a lot of choice great prices and freshly cooked in front of you. We didn't take the tour bus as walked it all instead which everything is within walking distance must say hat scarf and gloves is needed as it was freezing this time of year! all in all a great hotel in the heart of Dublin would stay here again if I ever visited the city again

First things first it's in a very good location, handy for Airport buses and the bar serves drinks.

Biggest complaint was around an internal telephone call at 3.00am with no one on the line. Had assumed it was an alarm call they'd put through to our room in error but on enquiry they denied this and said it must have been another guest 'messing around'. Now I appreciate this could happen pretty much anywhere. I did ask if they had a record of which room had called us, answer was a blunt 'no' and that was it.

Basically it was our tough luck and they really didn't care.

Goodness knows where all the many bigger rooms are in this hotel. We, like just about every reviewer on here had a very small room. This overlooked a service yard where we were lucky enough to hear a long loud conversation between the driver and one of the staff at 6.00am.

Would we go back, no!!

Dear Noadsie

Thank you for bringing the above issues to my attention. We are very disappointed to read that you were not entirely satisfied with your stay. We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for not having met your expectations on this occasion. We are lost as to why you received a call on your phone at 3 am. I looked into this matter and none of the staff would have a reason to call a room at 3am. Our wake up call system in our bedrooms is via our television system. Every matter is taken seriously in the hotel.

I have also noted your comment about the size of your room .Unfortunately a very limited number of our rooms are on the smaller size and are only put into use when hotel is full. Guests can be upgraded to a superior or executive room at cost €19 per night subject to avaialabilty.

Once again we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.Thank you again for your feedback if I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Kind Regards
