“Very nice. Try the full Irish breakfast!”
Reviewed October 6, 2013 via mobile

We stayed there for 2 nights this past weekend. The room was plain but clean. The bathroom was nice (including the heated towel bar). The breakfast both days was excellent! The hotel was convenient for the Dublin Bus Hop On/Hop Off tours and for the Airlink bus from/to the airport. We walked back from Temple Bar on Saturday night and it took about 20 minutes (straight down the river). We would stay there again just for the breakfast!

I stayed one night at this hotel with other 4 friends. We booked 2 rooms for 5 persons; 1 for 2 persons, and the other for 3 persons. We were satisfied their room arrangement. Check-out time at 12 noon, which was helpful for us to go around nearby places. Staffs are friendly, and very helpful to get proper information.

It was a pleasure to stay in this first rate hotel again after having a very satisfying stay there in 2002. Spacious room, quiet and the hotel lounges and dining areas give a feeling of luxury. The breakfast outstanding in quality and choice and the best bacon I've ever tasted! The hotel is in an excellent location and has the added benefit of being a stop on the Dublin City bus tour ( you can get on/off this bus as many times you want for a fare that is valid for 2 days).

The hotel is located adjacent to the light rail and around the corner from the Heuston Rail Station. It was within walking distance of the Temple Bar area of Dublin for those who like to walk. The hotel restaurant and bar are very nice with friendly staff. Beds were comfortable and the accommodations very modern. The breakfast buffet had a delightful range from continental to hot cooked traditional Irish breakfast. The only downside was the neighborhood. We walked down the street to the nearest pub and felt like we were walking through a ghetto. The sidewalk was littered with trash in front of the buildings. I would advise not walking down Benburb Street along the light rail line. There are lots of nicer streets along the Liffey River instead.

Quiet location, handy for tram into city center.
Parts of the hotel require some refurbishing but overall very comfortable stay.
Large bedroom with plenty of storage space. Small very badly laid out bathroom but nice and clean. Tea and coffee in room, which is nice after a long day sight seeing.
Some attractions nearby, others easy to get to on the tram.
We had breakfast and dinner in the hotel bar and it was great. Nice atmosphere, good food well presented and good value too.

This hotel has got it all, good location, comfortable rooms, excellent restaurant, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Another good point for us was no piped music in the bars, restaurant or lifts, this promotes a friendlier and more personal atmosphere. It's just a 10minute Luas ride into O'Connel St. but also a 5 minute walk to Phoenix Park, the best of both worlds, and the Dublin Tour Bus stops just across the street. Can thoroughly recommend this place.

I am just back from a three night stay in the Ashling Hotel and I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. We stayed in a king room, we spoiled ourselves and we were so glad we did. The bed was GORGEOUS. The room was lovely and spacious and the bathroom was massive with a lovely rainforest type shower. The unfortunate thing was that the room was on the second floor and right in front of the hotel, which meant that every time the luas passed the entire hotel felt like it was shaking. We could hear the people passing the windows below us. It didn't upset us too much, we didn't ask to swap rooms. It's just something we accepted, the size of the room more than made up for it.

We only ate in the hotel bar on one occasion and that was just a bowl of soup, which wasn't great if we are honest. It didn't put us off eating in the hotel, we just had dinner reservations every night else where and we were always out and about for breakfast or lunch. For us, Dublin is too full of wonderful places to eat and drink that staying in the hotel seemed like a waste.

The hotel is so wonderfully located that I'm surprised I never thought of staying there before. It's right on the luas line and right next to the train station. It's only a 15-20minutes stroll from Dublin Zoo, Kilmainham jail , Guinness Store House and the National Museum. It's very convenient.

The staff at The Ashling Hotel were lovely too from checking in, to the bar staff, everyone was very pleasant. The one issue I personally had was that on checking in and awaiting the lifts to our room, two sets of cleaning staff ignored us waiting for the lift and jumped right in ahead of us and acted as if we were invisible, BLATANTLY holding the 'lift close' button behind them to make sure we weren't sharing. I don't hold this a fault for the hotel, merely just bad manners of the individuals. They clearly didn't have the hotels best interests at heart but their own interest in the chocolate bars they were eating as they brushed passed us.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone taking a trip to Dublin City.
