“Very average hotel for the price range”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2011

I have stayed in this hotel on numerous occasions for business purposes. I can only say that each visit, I felt less impressed with the service. The final stay was in June. I had booked for myself and three work colleagues. One member was booked for an smoking room. On check in, there was no record of our booking. The reception was quite sharp and not at all helpful. We mentioned that we stayed here on a regular basis and had an email with our booking confirmation. It was obvious that they were busy with other members of our organisation (who normally use this hotel for business also). We eventually got rooms and were booked in. That evening we decided to dine in the bar - we were not impressed with the food and the price. Overall we felt that this hotel needs to review its prices and the standard of service. We checked out the next morning and agreed that we would not be returning. Since then we have found a hotel close by, cost €30 less for double room and breakfast. The service is excellent - and most important, they were delighted to have our business. We passed on their name to other work colleagues who also were both impressed with the price and service.
Overall, hotels need to step up to the challenge - the days of having a monopoly are long gone.

WE arrived for two nights at the Ashling via our tour program with C.I.E. Tours. It was convenient for us to walk to many spectacular Dublin locations, i.e; Jameson Distillery, Irish Museum, etc. The light rail pulled right up in front and various city touring buses were only a couple blks away. There were a few pubs and dining areas outside the Ashling, i.e. RYANS PUB, and FXB Steakhouse was just above the pub. ASHLING was clean, comfortable all around, friendly staff ..especially Namph at the front desk! Bartenders were knowledgeable of the area and helpful for alternatives to regular touristy locations. We only used the restaurant for breakfast. They had a wide spread of typical and not-so typical Irish Breakfasts (but I swear, NO ONE IN IRELAND knows how to make a fried egg over easy NOR sunny-side UP..they are all semi-HARD). The rooms were great, clean, terrific beds and temps were just fine and easy to adjust if needed. They also had in-house parking ...which was great for us, especially when we finished our CIE tour and continued to do our OWN TOURING. Also easy to get to freeway to reach County Meath and other locals. http://www.ashlinghotel.ie/

Room Tip: Staff is most accommodating...just tell them. http://www.ashlinghotel.ie/

Recently my husband, 14 year old son and I spent four nights at the Ashling Hotel in Dublin. The hotel is located approximately 25 minutes from the Dublin Airport, at a cost of 28 euros by taxi, near the Heuston train station. There is on-site parking adjacent to the hotel if needed. The room was of adequate size for three, a double bed and a single. The bathroom was a little odd; there are seperate hot and cold water taps for the bathroom sink. We never did have much luck getting hot water out of the sink in the bathroom. I did request that it be repaired while we were there, but we ended up using the hot water from the tub. There is no exhaust fan or outlet for hairdryer in the bathroom. Hairdryer is located in the desk which the t.v. is placed. We forgot our electrical adapter but were able to borrow one form the front desk personnel. On a positive note, my husband said the shower was the best he had experienced in a european hotel for sometime. The tub does get slick though, grab bars and bath mat are available. We liked the small safe, very easy to use to secure valuables that you don't want to carry with you throughout the day. The beds were comfortable, plenty of linen and extra pillows. Nice lights over the bed for bedtime reading. Good size flat screen t.v. with several mult-language channels. The hotel itself was quiet, but there was quite a bit of pedestrian street noise outside the hotel in the early morning hours. Our room looked out on to Montpelier Street, Room 445. Take earplugs or request a room that looks out to one of the two interior courtyards. For public transportation, the LUAS (light rail tram) runs right in front of the hotel. The two closest stops are the Heuston train station, and museum. Both stops within 2-3 minutes. Very easy to use, here is the web-site-http://www.luas.ie/. Tourist sites near the hotel include the Pheonix Park and Guinness Store House. Approximately 15-20 minutes by foot. The hotel does have a full service restaurant and a bar with an extensive menu. Breakfast is 12 euros per person. We purchased breakfast items at the SPAR grocers for our morning munchies. SPAR grocers are throughout Dublin, usually near tram stops, lots of grab and go items. Take a rain slicker and/or umbrellas; showers pop up even when they are not forcasted.

We stayed here having seen an offer on secret escapes and really enjoyed it.

Having landed at Dublin airport, we took the Air Bus which stopped at Heuston station which is literally a 2 minute walk from the hotel.

On entering the hotel, we were really impressed by the plush lobby and attentive staff.

The superior room was spacious enough, with a huge bed and nicely appointed bathroom. The only slight negative would be that it wasn't perfectly clean on arrival but this was a minor blip and nothing more.

The hotel bar and restaurant were beautifully decorated with lots of fantastic comfy sofas to relax on and the free wireless Internet throughout the hotel was decent too! Throw in Sky Sports in the bar and you're cooking with gas!

The hotel was a 2 min walk from the tram into town and trams were clean, cheap enough (at €1.50 each way) and frequent, coming every 8 mins or so.

For us, being located just out of town was more relaxing, especially as the town centre can get a bit noisy at night. We felt it was perfectly located for us.

One small negative was being charged for using the computers on the ground floor. We wanted to do this to get our boarding passes so had to pay €1 for 8minutes and were then further charged another €1 to use the printer to print 2 sides of A4. A bit disappointing given that it is a 4
star hotel but only a minor gripe.

Overall we would recommend the Ashling wholeheartedly.

I usually stay right in the city centre but becausse Dublin was thronged with visitors I was forced to look further afield. What a lucky find. The Ashling was just perfect for me as it turns out. It is right beside my train station, Heuston and the Luas is so frequent, it doesn‘t matter that you are on the edge of the city centre. Add in an excellent, spacious room with a panoramic view of the Liffey and the Dublin mountains; efficient and friendly service and food, and the experience was simply perfect.
