“Second Visit”
Reviewed July 27, 2013

We had stayed here two years ago and were very pleased so decided to stay again on our latest trip to Ireland. While still my hotel of choice because of its proximity to the airport standards have slipped. At breakfast there was an opened mini jar of jelly which had not been replaced and there was an opened bottle of water in the mini bar which had not been replaced. I declined the first room offered because I prefer a walk-in shower. We were offered a suitable room without difficulty. However I notced that in both rooms the carpeting needed to be replaced being worn and shabby. On the bright side they serve an excellent lunch and we enjoyed an excellent dinner. Staff are efficient and friendly as is usual in Ireland.

Dear Guest,

Thanks very much for your review. I'm really happy that you enjoyed the food at the castle and thought so highly of the staff. We pride ourselves on excellent customer service so it's great to see that you found members of staff to be friendly and efficient. However, I'm very sorry that you felt that standards had slipped since your last visit. I can assure you that we have continued to maintain high standards and improve them where possible. Technically, this an old converted castle only 5km from the center of Dublin. But the modernization makes it seem like a "regular" hotel once inside. The rooms could be in any modern hotel, and do not have a "castle" feel. Having said that, rooms are very nice indeed and cannot be faulted. The conversion of the hotel is wonderfully done, with stunning lobby, and excellent restaurant and bar that keep the identity of the old building. Clontarf is obviously very popular for public functions and weddings, but functions very well as a hotel. Only slight criticism was that staff were sometimes a little "neutral" and did not give a "we care for all our guests" impression. But this only minor, this is a good location for exploring Dublin.

The fun of staying in a castle with the amenities of a first class hotel. Pricey, but worth the tariff The bar served good fish and chips and treated our tour group like kings of the castle. The public areas are the "castle" part of the experience with antique furnishings, suits of armor, balconies and fireplace nooks. The guest rooms are very modern, comfortable and well appointed. A billing mix-up on check-out was quickly rectified. The greatest complaint is the venue's distance from Dublin town, so, if you intend to pub crawl, you should plan on a taxi.

We recently visited on our honeymoon in July 2013, the hotel is absolutely stunning, the perfect mix between old and new. The little touches made all the difference, petals on bed, champagne and chocolates on arrival etc... They went out of their way to fulfil our expectations and they succeeded. The hotel has a lovely restaurant (Fahrenheit grill) and we tried it one evening we were there, the steak was cooked perfectly!. I Must mention how helpful the concierge were, they really helped us make the most of our few days in Dublin and every bit of information they gave us was spot on.

Been to many family events here, all of which have been fantastic. Stayed over for a one night break and my only issue was that it wasn't for longer.. Everything was just wonderful and we are already planning our return visit. Its a mix of old world and modern with a castle twist. Food, staff, service and room are all faultless.
Close drive to St Annes park which has wonderful walks.
Go and visit to see for yourself - you won't be disappointed

Castle turned into a hotel has an impressive setting on driving up to the hotel. Enjoyed the décor of the lobby and common areas. The front desk staff was very accommodating (we were having an issue charging one of our electronic devices). They were also very helpful in giving us information locating a club in Dublin that we were trying to get to, gave us a couple of maps of the city, etc. Room was quite nice, quiet, with comfortable bed. The lift, or elevator as we call it in the USA, had an unpleasant, fishy smell for one entire day, but was fine the next day. The restaurant was nice, but the restaurant staff was not too friendly. Overall we enjoyed the stay and would recommend the Clontarf Castle Hotel.
