“Good hotel, friendly staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 7, 2013

I stayed there twice recently and was impressed with both rooms I stayed in. Both were large airy and bright. Bathrooms were spotless however I would suggest that if you want a walk in shower or a bath to request it at time of booking as the rooms seem to have one or the other.

Avoid the rooms over the function rooms if you are a light sleeper. They can be noisy even on the 3rd floor.

Breakfast was disorganised the four times we had. Staff seemed to be wandering around unsure of what to do, forgetting about tables in favour of new arrivals etc. Also the hotel should invest in some teaspoons, they seemed to be missing from all tables bar one morning.

The bar was pleasant and the staff were lovely in particular Dypnma who is wonderful. I would query the logic of blocking off part of the bar when Knights is already closed on a busy Saturday so resident have no where to seat for bar food.

As a result I cannot comment on the food as we didn't fancy room service.

Reception staff were friendly and helpful as were the room attendants who we would meet in the hallways.

This was my 4th time staying here in the last couple years and I will return again

Room Tip: Specify when booking whether you want a bath or a shower. Avoid the rooms over the function rooms if...

We were just visiting the castle—we went it to see the lobby and to grab a drink and snack at the attached pub and were greeted by the concierge, Michael Byrne, who was phenomenal! We told him we were there because my grandmother grew up in Contarff, MN and he regaled us with stories and information of the castle and the the lords of the manor. All I can say is: if the rest of the rest of the service here is half as good as he was, we'll have to make a point of staying here next time we're in Dublin!

When we did make it into the adjoining pub, the service there was also top notch and the scones were the best I had.

We stayed in a double room while here. Nice room complete with all that you need. Bathroom is big and with a shower. Wifi signal is free and strong. Beds are really comfortable! While the room may not have the "castle" feel, the lobby feels like one. Hotel is near to the airport and the city. We drove around and didn't have much difficulty getting our directions.

Service is excellent. Checking-in and out is a breeze. A pity we didn't have time for breakfast.

Clontarf Castle Hotel is an amazing hotel looks amazing when you first get there and no doubt you will jump out the car on the taxi and take pics of the hotel exterior and interior décor.

The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful when you check in. Rooms are very spacious and have everything you would expect in a modern hotel although you may think of a castle being gothic and dated the rooms are modern and have a contemporary feel.

We visited for our 10th wedding anniversary and we had complimentary champagne, cake and the bed was decorated with rose petals.

Would highly recommend Clontarf Castle for an amazing stay and great location would 100 percent visit again.

Room Tip: When we stayed here we hired a car and driving into and around Dublin central only took us around 5...

Upon arriving in Dublin on a 5am flight from the states, we were exhausted. We got to the Clontarf Castle Hotel at 7am, and they were able to let us have our room early, at no extra charge. What a welcome relief! We were able to sleep for a few hours before heading out to tour the city. Our room was okay, nothing spectacular. And, there wasn't any view to speak of. Looking out of our window, you faced another part of the building. But, our room was clean, and our bed was comfortable. It was interesting to walk through and stay in an old castle, and learn the history of it. The bus stop to go into the city was a short walk from the hotel, and it dropped us off at a point to access the Hop On, Hop Off bus. It was easy!

Having stayed here a few years ago ,we knew a bit about the hotel, but were in for a treat when we chatted with Michael Byrne, the Concierge. As we hadn't had a tour on our previous visit, we asked about one and he accomodated us within the hour, juggling our request amongst all his other committments with a First Communion, a Birthday party, a Wedding and its reception, etc. We had a most interesting private tour (for just the 2 of us !) as we could tell he just loved AND lived, history! We learned all about the history of the dungeon, the resident ghost, etc. Do ask him on your next visit. He suggested that if we wanted to see the REAL Dublin, to make sure that we visited Kilhmainin Jail, and the famine ship called The Jeanie Johnston, which we did. Thank you Michael for everything,as you made our 2 day vist here extraordinary. For a good and central location to see the sights in Dublin, just take the double decker bus that is a few blocks away, and you are there in 20 minutes!

Room Tip: A room in the new addition would be quiet. .

Conceriege Michael couldn't have been more helpful to me, a 'non-guest', in working by phone from overseas to coordinate ground transportation from the hotel to the City Center for a special dinner for my best friend and his wife as the celebrated their honeymoon in Ireland.

Based on this experience I am confident that guests are routinely provided with exceptional care during their stay at Clontarf Castle, and I look forward to my own visit in the future ... thank you, Michael!
