“Terrific Hotel!”
Reviewed June 26, 2006

My daughter and I stayed at the Davenport Hotel in May 2006. It is a lovely old hotel in the heart of Dublin. The location was great! Near Merrion Square and Temple Bar areas. We walked everywhere during our stay, down to Grafton St. and to O'Connell St., stopping by the GPO and crossed the bridge over the Liffey. The hotel room was nice, with good comfortable beds and clean bathrooms. I love the tea with real cups and saucers, none of that styrofoam stuff. The breakfast was delicious! It really started the day off in a lovely way and kept us satisfied until the afternoon. The hotel staff was very nice and even got us into the room as soon as we arrived from the airport. Good thing too, because we were dog tired. I had asked for a quiet room on one of the top floors and that is what we received. Super time!
My daughter wants to do a semester at the Trinity College so I am sure we will be back!
Only suggestion I have is to include some decaf tea bags in the room.
Thank you, Davenport!

Just spent a fun filled week in Dublin while staying at the Davenport. Very large rooms (by European standards) and helpful, friendly staff. The breakfast each morning was fresh, tasty and plentiful. A nice short walk to Grafton Street, Trinity College, and the Dublin Tourism bureau. It's a quick 20 euro cab ride from Dublin airport. Around the corner from the hotel is a great pub called The Ginger Man. Tell Brian we said hello! Will definitely stay there again on our next trip.

After a few of the reviews here, we were a little worried about our reservations. We had booked two nights in the Davenport during a 4 day trip in Ireland.

Finding the hotel after getting off the ferry was a little tricky, but the directions from the hotel's website were accurate and led us directly to the front door. We were greeted promptly and the car was parked by the valet (I keep seeing people complain about the cost, but we weren't charged...and they should check out the cost of parking in the middle of a European city sometime!). Our room was very nice, tons of space, clean and fresh. As we had arrived late in the evening, the restaurant was getting set to close, but the concierge suggested a local bar/restaurant which turned out to be very good. A 10 minute stroll, and you are in Temple Bar, a 5 minute amble gets you to Trinity College or St Stephens Green. The room was quiet, the beds comfy, and the curtains some of the best at shutting out the light that we have ever come across !

Upon our return a couple days later, we were greeted by name, given an even bigger room than the first night, and the car was again parked without charge. We ate in the Mont Clare restaurant across the road (you get a discount in any of the sister hotels, and they can bill to your room regardless which of the hotels you are in) and in the morning, ate breakfast in the Davenport. Contrary to some reports, the choice was extensive, hot and tasty.

Given the price we paid (approx US$100), the value for money was very good. We've got it on the list for our next Ireland adventure !!

My sister and I stayed at the Davenport for 4 nights during our 10 day trip to Ireland. In all honesty, we had no complaints with this lovely hotel. The room was spacious and in very good condition. (Great water pressure in the shower was a plus!)

Our rate included the full Irish breakfast -- which was wonderful and kept us going all day. In the evening we ordered room service and not once did we have a bad meal. Did I mention the Tiramisu? Yummmm......

Thank you to the entire staff (especially the staff in the Presidents Bar) for making our stay at the Davenport an absolute pleasure!

The hotel is well decorated and the facilities are wonderful, especially the food in the resturant.
Was a little upset about the view from our room as it was a brick wall; but as we spent very little time in the hotel room it did not matter to much (i think the room number was 616).
I would defintely recommend going on a Dublin bus tour as it allows you to see so much of tthe city.
Overall I would recommend this hotel but not the room I had!

My husband and I stayed at the Davenport three times. Food quality is exceptional-dinnerwise, but the breakfast was disappointingly cold every morning. The bedrooms are very scruffy and seem to be getting scruffier every time we stay there. The televisions are very small and there is a bad quality reception. You have to park your own car or otherwise you pay €10 to have it parked by a parking attendant, who do not even get to keep it themselves as all profits go to the hotel fund! The security guards in the car park were very unfriendly and almost seem to treat guests with contempt. But apart from the disadvantages, the location was perfect for shopping and business and central to all city centre amenities.

I have just come back from Dublin after a romantic weekend away with my boyfriend. We booked the Davenport after reading the reviews on trip advisor, and I have got to say we weren't disappointed.

The rooms are reasonably priced and quite spacious. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful (even let us check in at 9am after a very early flight). The location is spot on, the only time we had to get a taxi was during the heavy rain. The only down side to the hotel was the decor, it is in need of a bit of a refurb in the general hotel, but our room was fine (just like the pictures on expedia).

I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
