“Nice place pity about the food!”
Reviewed February 8, 2013

I want to start by saying i have never written a review before but felt compelled to write this as the food was so bland. I wasnt expecting anything amazing for the price but seriously!

I have been to this place a few times for both lunch/brunch and dinner.
While the brunch is quite good poaced eggs, bacon cake etc the dinner is terrible. On two occasons i have been to the dinner/show for 25e. While it is great value the food that was served was just tasteless, i mean its simple food like stew but just badly made. I mean my husband could make a better stew and thats saying something. Its a pity beacause it is such a nice place and the dinner/play combo is brilliant. All they would have to do to make this place perfect is sack the chef and hire someone who can actually cook.

So recently they have started doing a 3 course dinner for 25e on Thur/Fri/Sat so i decided to give it another go i mean how bad can it be. We started with nachos and a serrano ham blue cheese and fig salad. The nachos came with spring onions sour cream and avocado which was inedible because the avocado was not ripe so not a good start. The salad was serrano ham with a bunch of salad leaves toppped with a tiny amount of blue cheese. On the side was a half a fig and some sort of tomato dressing. It just did not work at all!

The main courses were v poor as well prawn linguine in a creamy courgette sauce was bland and the prawns were fresh from frozen. I mean you know when prawns are fresh or not!
The burger looked great but lacked any flavour.
So i though desert will save this meal but alas no the chocolate orange torte was straight from fridge, dry and not very nice.
I mean if you are going to serve simple food at a good price at least do it well!

Delighted to stumble across the Eatery at the Square and fair dues to the owners for making this happen in such times to open a Restaurant.

“poor lunch experience”
Reviewed February 7, 2013

I ate at this restaurant during the summer and found the entrance hospitality lacking. I had my baby with me in a buggie and I did not feel welcome. I was left to move a container of umbrellas to get the buggie to the table. The food was fine but nothing out of the ordinary. Our server was very accommodating though.

“The tea rooms in mount jerome are lovely, well worth a visit.”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

It was a bit eerie at first to walk through a graveyard to a tea room but the venue is set in such a way as to enhance the experience. The vintage chic of the tea rooms lies perfectly with a walk among the great and good of Dublin. Nice tea, lovely cakes and the toasted sandwiches warmed the cockles on a January day.
