“Don't recommend cheap and nasty”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2014 via mobile

Good locations that's about all. Staff where rude and unhelpful. The wifi the said has been fixed bearly works. I questioned the staff over it and apparently it's because I have an iPhone... Really I don't see how that makes a difference it hasn't anywhere else in the world. Facilities where not clean, communal bathrooms appeared as they didn't get cleaned kitchen we won't go there. We had an ensuite bathroom with our room - toilet was on a huge lean and you sat with the shower curtain over you and could only use the shower if you wanted to hold the shower head as there wasn't bracket to hold it up. Rooms where very small, beds uncomfortable and there is a lovely green light which illuminates the room all night.

We are very sorry to hear that we failed to impress you while staying with us.Our wifi has recently upgraded and this situation should not have occured .We brought the issue to the IT department and it is getting analysed at the moment.
Our rooms are getting cleaned daily and the kitchen and bathrooms are getting cleaned few times during the day.Room sizes and beds are up to standards imposed by the tourisme authorities and the green light is from the safety system installed for safety of all guests and staff.
As for the staff that faild to provide an excellent costumer service during your stay , I would be more than greatfull to get more details sent directly to my e-mail address ( manager@kinlaydublin.ie) so I could identify the circumstances and staff concerned and make sure similar incidents won't re occure.

All the best ,
Kinlay Team

I stayed for only one night because i had an early flight the next morning. i booked the 18 mixed dorm and it was perfectly fine. clean, comfortable bed. friendly staff. really great location just across the street from Christ Church, and maybe 5 minute walk to Temple Bar area. staff was helpful with booking the airport shuttle (7 euro). i would stay here again.

Kinlay House is a cheap, friendly and clean hostel with a really good location. It is just a few minutes walk away from Temple Bar, where most of the pubs and bars in Dublin are. You get free Wifi-access and a free breakfast (toast, butter, jam, peanut butter, cereals, milk, coffee, tea).
I stayed in a 20-Bed-dorm which is divided into little rooms (4 beds each), so that you have a little bit of privacy although you are in a 20-Bed-dorm.

I am deeply sorry to hear that we failed in offering the best experience while staying in our hostel.
We clean our rooms every day in early afternoon , if you have arrived later in the day it could be possible that your room mates have left the empty cans in the room under the beds before you got to use it.
We have taken on board your comments and we are constantly looking at ways we can improve our hostel.
We hope to welcome you back to Kinlay in the near future.

Kinlay House has had mixed reviews, and here is another.

The location is excellent, right by Christchurch Cathedral and Dublin Castle, short walk to Temple Bar and Trinity College. Airlink bus 747 stops outside. We found the staff welcoming and helpful, which we note is not everyone's view so perhaps they have taken note of the reviews.

The room was basic and comfortable, but smelt horrible! We eventually worked out this was damp, caused by inadequate ventilation. Opening the windows helped, but that let in the traffic noise, and it's right on the main road. No soap, no bedside light, no glasses, and a bright green light which stayed on all night, which must have been some sort of fire safety light but didn't help sleeping.

Breakfast was OK, nothing special but plenty of it, and again friendly staff. The free city walking tour guide never turned up, which we decided was probably because the clocks had gone forward overnight and the guide hadn't noticed. As we have been to Dublin before this didn't matter to us, but if you were relying on it, it would have been annoying.

Spacious common room with comfortable armchairs, TV and DVDs. We didn't notice long term residents being difficult, as other reviewers have. Decent lockers to store your valuables.

It was OK for one night, but if we had been staying more than one night we would have moved. It's only average value.

Unfortunately the bright green light is from the fire exit sign that we need to have for your own protection in case of a fire hazard .
We have taken on board your comments and we are constantly looking at ways we can improve our hostel.
Hope to welcome you back soon to Kinlay House

The hostel is on a very good location and has got a very good structure, but I don't know if would stay there again.

Staff is not helpful, they are there to do their jobs only. Wifi virtually doesn't work, for me or for any of my friends. Also asked some people in the hostel, also didn't work with them. It doesn't even work on the tablets provided by the hostel.

Kitchen is very good and well equipped which allows any sort of cooking and breakfast is average. Tea, Coffee, Toasts and cereal.

Windows are facing high street causing noise in the rooms. Hot water simply is not enough, so expect taking cold showers. This problem is stated in many reviews from the past, and i surely don't know if they are really willing to fix it.

My bathroom drain was clogged and the water was cold, all I got was a 2 euro refund. Disappointing.

On a positive side, hostel location is ideal to enjoy Dublin's night-life or to get to the main high street. And my positive experience ends here. On a negative side, hostels all windows face the high street, so if you light sleeper would recommend to bring your own noise cancelling ear plugs. The room I stayed in was really small and very crowded. Rooms do NOT have any storage lockers, so either you have to pay extra if you like to store your stuff in more secure place next to the reception or you have to trust your room mates. Back in February, when I stayed there, hostel had problem with the hot water, meaning that the radiators didn't work and the place was really cold not to mention a joy of cold shower. When I reported back to the help-desk about it, the receptionist reaction was “that he is not a plumber and he cannot not do anything about it”. Really appalling customer service. When spoke to other residents, hostel had a problem with the hot water for more than couple of days. Really, really appalling staying experience.

Room Tip: Bring your own noise cancelling ear plugs

Thank you for taking the time to review our property.
We are sorry to hear that you found the hostel noisy , however we do provide ear plugs, free of charge at the front desk, also we do apologize on the heating .We have had issues when we were really busy however these have since been rectified and we don't expect any problems going forward.
If you found dorms crowded we also have private rooms available where your items would be secure , we will always recommend our lockers however when sharing , again thank you for the feedback ,we are always wants to improve.
We hope to welcome you back to Kinlay House in the near future.
