“the morgan was amazing”

Having read the poor reviews on the morgan - i must admit i was worried when i got a good deal -having stayed there 6 years ago, as to what the hotel would now be like. My daughter had stayed there recently and loved it so i booked the morgan for april 2008
Yes there was a problem with the window on the first room-IWe went to reception -the manager David came straight away to see the problem. He upgraded us to a beautiful room -got us a drink in the bar and could not have been more helpful. The service we got was excellent - the hotel was gorgeous - the staff were really nice -what more could you want. Yes there is noise in Temple Bar and if you are in the rooms at the front- yes you will hear noise from the street but if you want a quiet area then Temple Bar is not for you - The Morgan is a cool boutique Hotel with a lovely contemporary bar and the breakfast was absolutely fine . David the Manager got top marks from us and he made our stay really special. And yes we would definitely go back

I booked the Morgan for a long weekend last minute based on photos and reviews i had read! I was expecting something impressive, i was however abit disspointed! The hotel itself is clean, staff very helpful, lively, has a nice trendy feel to it and most of all a brilliant location in the heart of Temple Bar! All these good points where however overshadowed by the room itself. It was very small, and the bathroom even smaller. Our shower didnt work and the windows let in a terrible draft which certainly gave the room a chilly feel! It is also abit noisey which is to be expected since it is located in Temple Bar but bear this in mind when booking. If your looking for a hotel in the heart of the Dublin action then look no further but its maybe the fact that its squeezed into Temple Bar that the room was so small. Possibly i just didnt pay enough for a bigger room :)

We go to Dublin every year with friends for St Paddys Day and stopped at "the Morgan" 5 years ago and had a great time. The staff were very friendly, the hotel very accomodating, a lovely lounge to relax and have a few whiskys at the end of the day and early into the next day. It couldnt have been nicer.
The Hotel the looks the part but the welcoming irish charm has gone. The lounge is Dr Jackyl in the day and Mr Hyde at night. We returned at 11.30pm the first night after a hectic day on the guiness, hoping for a few quiet drinks in the guest lounge, to find there isnt a guest lounge, just an electro funk jazz bar with an over zealous bongo player. After 2 minutes of shouting to each other to be heard we escaped to the corridor were we manged to find some chairs. The sound of the music through the wall was reduced to the level of a 1500watt masonary drill but at least we could hear each other (just).
We are all late 30's, early 40's and love the noise and the atmosphere of Temple bar and the Arlington Hotel during the St Patricks celebrations., but we expect to be able to return to our '4 star!' hotel after paying a small fortune and be looked after and treated as guests; this is meant to be primarily a hotel for gods sake, not a rave club! On St Patricks day we returned to the hotel at 7.00pm to freshen up, we were sporting our st Patricks Day Hats and were virtually man handled from the bar and into the elusive corridor by one of the staff who told us we were not in keeping with the image of the hotel!
Just to summarise. If you are early 20's, have loads of money, love the bongoes and dont mind little sleep then this is the place for u.
If you are none of the above i warn you 'STAY AWAY'. There are plenty of warm , welcoming hotels in the area who will be happy to accomodate you.

I stay here for one night over Christmas for a show in town. The decor is nice but a little grotty, it needs a bit of freshening up. The bar & smoking area are great, loads of room for large groups & the music's not bad. The bar is expensive though but average for the part of Dublin it's in. If you're a light sleeper I wouldn't advise it, the hotel's located on Fleet Street which is right in the middle of Temple Bar, and just about located above a nightclub. The room was white with a nice tv & internet facility so all good there. I'd stay again!

I found this hotel on tablethotels.com, which I typically trust implicitly -- however this time it was way off! This place was SOOO overpriced for what you got. We arrived and they had no record of our reservation. Thankfully I had my tablethotels confirmation. The woman at the front desk couldn't have been more unpleasant and less hospitable. She made no apologies regarding the lost reservation. She did rebook us thankfully. However when we arrived in our room, I was stunned. It was worse than a college dorm room, and totally unacceptable for the money we were spending. We could have stayed elsewhere for much less, and probably had a nicer room, and definitely better customer service. Not only was the room small, but the bathroom was TINY. You could barely turnaround, and when you sat on the toilet your knees pressed up against the crappy stand-up shower. The trash can was broken and kept falling apart, and there were cigarette burns in the carpet. The place just looked, old, totally dated, and totally neglected. We will NEVER stay there again, and would never recommend it to anyone.

BTW - we wrote tablet hotels, and they were very prompt in their response and very apologetic. They quickly contacted The Morgan. Unfortunately The Morgan's response was a free upgrade next time we are in Dublin - thanks a lot ! Anyway, tablethotels is still a great site in my book based on their customer service. I will however do a little more background work on the hotels listed...just in case.

To be honest, if it hadn't have been for one negative factor (the noise emanating from the bar downstairs), this would be a really positive review. The stay began when we tried to check in early; the guy on the front desk (and girl for that matter) were extremely helpful and welcoming - but we were put in a smoking-room on the third floor, after having requested a non-smoking room when booking (why do hotels have smoking rooms anyway?!).

After complaining they said that a non-smoking would be available in one hour. To their credit they put us in a really super room on the second floor with sofas, balcony, nice bathroom, flatscreen etc. The stay turned sour when we returned from a meal out later that evening. My partner being ill didn't help, but the noise from the music in the bar was unbearable and we simply couldn't sleep. Again, to the staff's credit, they did everything in their power to solve the problem. They tried to get ear plugs from the shops in temple bar and even attempted to get a room at different hotels (as the Morgan was full-Saturday night!).

We couldn't sleep in the room and both had thumping headaches. The only quiet room they had was a meeting room on the ground floor. It sounds unbelievable, but we slept for 3 hours sitting down on chairs around a conference table until the bar closed at 2am (at least we had plenty of free sparkling water!). In the morning they offered free room-service breakfast (which we didn't take them up on due to buffet breakfast included in our deal); and furthermore a late check-out, in fact, as late as we needed, so that my partner in particular could rest/catch up on sleep.

However, problem number 3, builders spent the day drilling in the room directly above and hence not a wink of sleep could be had! What is most annoying is that The Morgan has all of the ingredients to be a super city-centre 4* hotel with a great location, very helpful staff and snazzy furnishings. What we experienced however, was a very noisy hotel which I would only go back to if they fitted some adequate sound proofing; considering we were on the 2nd floor, who knows what people on the first floor experienced. A special word for 'Dave from Canada' on the front desk who did allow us to leave with a smile on our face at the end of our trouble-filled weekend by giving us the Morgan Suite to change and freshen up before going to the airport.
