“Perfect central & lively location with amazing staff!”
Reviewed September 16, 2013 via mobile

Had an issue with overbooking but the issue was resolved with the utmost professionalism & promtness by Denis. Location is second to none. And all staff we delt with were very pleasant & accommodating. I had a few questions about the area and all were answered immediately. Slightly noisey at night but anyone would be delusional to expect other wise in such a central lively location. Will definitely be staying again! Also great vibe in the hostel in terms of the other guests aswell as a fully equipped commons room with tv playstation dvds internet maps and comfy couches. Great luggage storage facilities especially after we had checked out and wanted to walk the city- €1 per bag. Very happy with our stay. Highly recommend, you get every thing you should expect from a hostel of it's type!

Stayed here for 3 nights with a friend and it was our first time in a hostel. Had to check out of one room and into another because we booked last minute and the place was full - bit annoying after a late night out in Temple bar but the staff were ace and let us use the facilities whilst we waited for our new keys. Yes it's noisy, but that's because of its excellent location in the middle of temple bar and is used by people who'll be coming in at all hours in various states of drunkenness. The second room (101) was brighter than our first (202) and it was nice to move into a room that had been emptied and fully cleaned. The fact that the WiFi doesn't reach all the rooms means that the common rooms can get pretty silent with everyone on the internet. Great staff, clean, smallish rooms, excellent location, nice bright communal areas, great opportunity to meet people from all over, bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper or not planning to Guinness yourself to sleep.

I enjoyed my time at Barnacles Hostel Temple Bar. The location is excellent, right in the heart of temple bar. I unfortunately ended up in a 6 person room that should have been a 4 person. It was very cramped. And the wifi DID NOT work in our room at all. But I know that there are rooms that were a lot bigger for 6 people. The staff was very friendly, and the building felt safe. Its definitely not for those who are looking for a quiet night. The hostel is surrounded by night life, so it does stay quite loud until late.

Staff was great, rooms were great with your own bathroom! Highly recommend for the world travellers out there! Right smack in the centre of the bars and nights life, also you can sign up for an awesome Pub Crawl! We had a great time and will definitely stay here again!

our room was number 109, next to the kitchen, quite noisy in the morning. the hostel is not so so clean as one could expect but it's HUGE! you can absolutely meet people and have a lot of fun, but is not the kind of place i suggest you if you like more quiet and home-like hostels.
the location is perfect, right next to the temple bar and the reception is open 24/7.
is not really expensive (we spent 19 euros each per night) but the 8 beds rooms are quite small.

First off, I have to add a disclaimer to this poor review. I do not believe this hostel is for my age group (early 30s) and feel like had I been 21, I wouldn't have been as critical of the accommodations.

The staff at the Barnacle was awesome. They answered all of our questions and were helpful with storing our bags when we arrived before our room was ready. I would say that they staff was the best thing we experienced during our stay. The location was great as well. We had asked for a quiet room and were given one that did not overlook the street (4 of us on the room with a bathroom). The room was tiny. My interior, no window room on a cruise ship was actually bigger. Although we really didn't experience the noise from the bar, we unfortunately had neighbors who were renting the apartment next door who blared music and would go out onto their balcony well into dawn. We couldn't close the windows because it was so hot in our room. We did complain to the staff at around 4 am and they did call the police.

One thing that I had read was that this hostel was very clean, which was something I didn't really experience. The sheets had stains on them as did the rugs all throughout the hostel. I think they also need to paint the walls as it is looking run down. The biggest problem though was our bathroom. The toilet would (pardon me for this) have someone else's waste in it. We were told that it was the height of tourist season and the pipes were old and that is the reason for it. They did give us 50 euro as compensation but it was still gross. Our shower would pool at the bottom so you basically stood in dirty water when taking a shower. Our room was near the kitchen so we smelled what others were making (lots of stuff with curry).

Again, if I had been 21 and maybe just staying a night or two, I don't think I would have minded as much. But for anyone who is older and may be looking for a longer stay, I would suggest somewhere else.

Location was excellent, right in the heart of temple bar. The common room was filled constantly with young kids so it was hard to relax with them around. Not sure if it is always like this but I don't think young kids should be allowed in hostels if they are not supervised
