“Great location & staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2011

I stayed there 2 nights in late September and it was clean, the staff was friendly, and the location was nice. It got a little loud in the hall one night, but to be expected in the Temple Bar area. They recommended a walking tour, which was great. It is only a few blocks away from The George, where I saw an awesome drag show. Lot's of good pubs and restaurants near by.

Barnacles is a really nice hostel. I stayed there one night -at the end of my Ireland stay, before taking a ferry to Wales.

Barnacles is beautifully placed in the heart of the Temple Bar area -one of my favorite in Dublin. Not just for the bars or night life, but it's a nice relaxing area to walk around, listen to music, and meet people.

The staff was friendly, the common room was very comfortable and set up nicely so it was easy to meet new travelers.

My room was a bit narrow compared to say, the one I stayed in at Four Courts, but at the same time felt a little more comfy. There's something about those green-framed beds that just scream 'friendly.'

I'd stay here again!

Walked in to Barnacles after staying a night in Galway and was blown away with the superb and friendly service right from the get go. Friendly staff through and through, nice common area with free 15 min WiFi on the computers- which is always nice. Rooms were standard, clean and roomy enough. Noise outside was expected so you can't do much there- minor sacrifice for such a prime location and great staff. Shane at the desk went above and beyond in his assistance and I can't say enough about him. If you have any issues he'll take care of them immediately and with a smile. Rest of the staff was awesome as well... Daisy, and the tall dark haired gent. Just be ready for some late night, early morning noise whether it's pub-goers or city cleaners, only draw back- but that's all of Temple Bar so if you need quiet another neighborhood maybe. All the best

This was a great hostel in the heart of Dublin. Right in Temple Bar, there was action right outside the door. The staff was very nice, everything was very clean. A great kitchen and a nice lounge with computers and wireless. Still quiet for sleeping even though there was so much nearby. I really enjoyed my stay here and I would definitely come back.

Lets start with the positives - the room we stayed in was really cute, it was clean and we had a good sleep. The negatives - we stood in reception for ages with our backpacks on waiting to be served (or acknowledged) so that we could check in. One staff member was talking to another guest and the other two were doing absolutely nothing.
Our room wasn't ready for us - even though it was 3pm and we were asked to keep our luggage in the tiniest storage cupboard you have ever seen!
The shower was cold supposedly due to a big group that had just checked in.
If you are looking for a quiet night then this is not the place for you as The Temple Bar is just down the road. In saying this the Temple Bar district is a great location!

Dear Honest Backpacker,

Thank you for taking the time to review Barnacles Hostel Temple Bar. We’re delighted you found your room to be cute!! And that you had a good sleep of courseJ
We are disappointed that it took so long for our reception staff to check you in. It is our friendly staff and location that guests rate us most highly on! We are training in some new reception staff at the moment and they might have still had their ‘training wheels’ on when you arrived.

We are puzzled when you say your beds were not ready for you by 3pm as this is our check in time. We have a full team of cleaning staff who work to you’re your rooms ready on time every day. We really do not recall a day where rooms were not ready on time. Could it be that your watches were still on European time which can add an extra hour to local time?

The luggage room in reception is deceptively small looking but we also have another large luggage rooms downstairs which we use when this reception luggage room becomes full. Your luggage was safe and secure at all times we can assure you.

Due to the large group which had just checked in, our hot water may have been used up by your arrival. However, we had turned on the booster for the water heater on your arrival. It only takes approx 20 minutes for the water to become nice and hot again for showers. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

We agree Temple Bar is a great location and buzzing with atmosphere. We hope you had a chance to join in some of the Temple Bar fun while you stayed with us.

Thanks again for your review. We have taken your comments onboard and have also brought them to the attention of the reception staff.

Best of luck with the rest of your travels!

Now the negatives - we stood in the reception area for ages before being served, the luggage storage room was tiny and the shower was cold due to a big group that had just checked-in. If you are looking for peace and quiet this probably isn't the place as it is just up the road from The Temple Bar.

Lots of stairs if on 3rd floor. Had early flight on last day, lots of noise but was expected. And also has window so more sound. Stayed in double bed private with ensuite. Squishy but good enough. Wifi not in rooms only in common areas bit annoying. Awesome location and good security!!!
