“Wonderful meal!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2014 via mobile

Our first night in Dublin we chose this restaurant based on the fine reviews... Very pleased to start our trip here! The food was excellent, the clientele and staff were warm and friendly, and ambiance was casual but quite inviting. There were not many tourists here and our concierge at the merrion had not even heard of the establishment...surprising for such a high rating on trip advisor. Highly recommend the Sussex!

“Fabulous meal, couldn't recommend it enough”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2014 via mobile

Had a delicious, romantic, mid week meal for two in the Sussex Jan 14. Excellent in every way. Ian, our wonderful waiter for the evening, gave us our choice of table then explained the specials and menu. Pointed out that wine by the glass was priced the same per volume as by the bottle allowing us to sample more than one of the lovely wines on offer.
I had the Dublin Bay Prawns as a starter and even now my mouth is watering at the memory! My husband enjoyed smoked haddock served in what we would have described as a mini fish pie....sublime!
For main we both opted for ribeye steak. There would be the only slight fault in that the steaks, though very flavoursome, could have been more tender . A minor, minor comment and certainly not sufficient to drop a star (steak would get four and a half).
We will definitely return and recommend to one and all.

“Do yourself a favour and eat here!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2014

Like 99% of the people who have reviewed below, our experience at The Sussex was 5 star.

Interior: The restauraunt is beautiful with a romantic yet casual atmosphere. What I did like was that the tables were fairly well apart from each other meaning you had ample space to talk without worrying of being overheard. We had a lovely view overlooking the road outside and the whole surrounding was very comfortable and relaxing.

Food: For starters we had the red pepper and tomato soup as well as the caesar salad. Both were delicious and fulsome. The mains were sublime. We had the striploin steak which was simply perfect and probably, the best steak I've had in Dublin yet. A generous portion of salad and fries accompanied the steak with a cracking Bernaise sauce. You won't go hungry in the Sussex and from our experience, every mouthful just gets better and better. The dessert menu was very varied and went down a treat at the end of a 5 star meal. The Sussex really pride themselves in their Irish food and it really shows in the taste. All in all, E50 for two three course meals is just unbeatable value.

The service was very good overall. The food was quick to come out but we did notice a long delay in taking away our empty plates.

I couldn't recommend this place enough, it really does have it all.

“Great irish food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2014

I dined here just before Christmas and the place was humming - just as well we booked! We dined on Ted Brown's Dingle bay prawn and mussel linguine and roast cod which was their daily special - we had a Desmond cheese caesar salad as an accompaniment. The meal was really excellent and washed down with a good bottle Finca La Linda Malbec. This is a must if visiting Dublin - it's conveniently located across the road from the old Burlington hotel now a Double Tree Hilton.
