Owner description: This bleak old jail was notorious in the 19th century for its harsh treatment of prisoners.

This tour was recommended to us by family members. It really drives home the suffering of some very brave men and women of Ireland in their fight for independence.

Our guide was excellent and explained everything and answered all questions. Well worth the visit.

Thank Lee K

An interesting look back into penal history. Our guide, however, after an introduction saying that the prison was not just interesting for its political prisoners, seemed most intent on using the tour as a platform to describe exactly that. While I understand the fervor inspired by Ireland's struggle for independence, I felt somewhat shortchanged by our guide's obsession with his political agenda.

Engaging tour guides make for a great experience. The 'Last Letters' exhibition I found very moving. Definitely worth visiting. Good idea to pair a visit with the 'Rebel Walking Tour of Dublin'.

This is a great experience and really helps in the understanding of Ireland's last 200 years of convoluted history. Our guide was superb (and respectful.. See below).

This.Brillant brillant attaction well worth a visit.there is a tour every 15mins.you are taken around the prison by a guide it takes approx 1hour.The tour guides are brillant lots of information and histroy and very helpful.Cost only 6 euros a bargain. The jail is a must see.Toilet and tea room very handy as the jail is a bit of the beaten track if you don't arrive by tour bus.Don't use taxis I got ripped of again. Now the downside children in prams can't get round prison you have to leave pram at front door beside reception. If you are carrying a child its hard going lots of stairs elderly beware to. This was the best attraction and tour I've ever been to great value for money .NOT TO BE MISSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank seamus m
