“Fantastic Historical Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2013

This had been recommended by a friend as it was on the Red Bus Tour route and had opened her eyes to the history of Ireland. My son and I found it very atmospheric and the tour guide had a fantastic knowledge of the gaol, its history and inhabitants and could answer all sorts of questions. A really good visit which has provoked me to want to discover more about Irelands past.

“Not a sightseeing tour - just political rhetoric”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2013

After waiting an hour for the privilege of taking the tour we were sorely disappointed. At the beginning of our tour we were bossily herded into a lecture hall and promised a tour covering prison reform, architecture and political history. Unfortuneately for us the guide had only one thought in mind which was to spout a load of political rhetoric hugely biased with many "facts" taken out of context. By contrast we learned far more from a tour of the museum than we did from our biggotec guide.

What a shame this attraction has missed a great opportunity to bring history to life.

“Must-see Museum!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2013

We visited this museum on a recent trip to Dublin. The museum is excellent value at 6Euro per adult and includes a guided tour around the jail. Our guide, Ruairí, was brilliant. He was incredibly knowledgeable and was willing to answer the many questions that people on the tour had. There was a lot of information to take in as it was like a crash course in Irish history! This is a definite must on anybody's visit to Dublin!

“Great place to visit and learn our history.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2013

Went here with my wife who had visited several years ago and am glad we did. At just 6 euros entry it is one of the cheaper things to do in Dublin but I would say ranks among the best.

You are taken round by a guide which takes about an hour from start to finish. We were fortunate to have Patrick as our guide who was very knowledgeable and communicated not only the history of the building, but the time and the people who were held here, some of whom were ultimately executed outside.

If you come to Dublin and don't visit Kilmainham you are missing out, thankyou again to Patrick and all the staff aswell as the many volunteers who worked to restore this vital part of the story of our country.
