“Ok if you're careful”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

This street is ok so long as you are careful, watch your bags and phone etc, but then you could say that for anywhere these days. Full of tacky tourist shops selling your "Oirish" tat

“Be careful on O'Connell St”
Reviewed July 27, 2013

I'm a Dublin native, but hate going to O'Connell Street unless I have to. The bars are not pleasant (no real variety, all overpriced - you could pay the same price in Temple Bar but it's a nicer area), there's very little to do, and there are numerous drunks, drug dealers, etc, and people hassling you for money who often turn nasty if you say no. I have witnessed (and intervened in) countless fights on O'Connell Street, often of a racist nature, it's really not a pleasant place to go. Grafton Street is better for shopping, although takes a while to navigate down because it's not very wide, but safety-wise it's far better than O'Connell St.

“A bit touristy...but hey, you ARE a tourist!”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

O'Connell Street was great. If you are looking for good food, good drinks, or good souvenirs, this is your spot. It is a large street, which you can walk on either side OR in the middle! So much goes on here, and you could honestly spend all day walking around eating, drinking, and shopping. There is even an arcade (read: casino). Fun way to spend an afternoon!

I have fallen in love with Dublin, and this sealed the deal. So many things you can do and see - we stayed all day and never got bored. Definitely worth the visit if you're staying around Dublin!

The widest street in Ireland with trees in sections. The downturn in he economy has hit it :-(( it has some majestic buildings that are steeped in history
