Owner description: The Abbey Theatre's founders W.B. Yeats and Lady Gregory had the vision to 'bring upon the stage the deeper thoughts and emotions of Ireland'. Our ambitious artistic programme of classic Irish drama and new Irish writing holds a mirror up to Irish society. Over the years, the Abbey has nurtured and premiered the work of major Irish playwrights such as Marina Carr, Frank McGuinness, Tom Murphy and a new generation of writers such as Richard Dormer, Stacey Gregg, Nancy Harris and Elaine Murphy. We also nurture a new generation of Irish artists through our artistic development programmes and commitment to discovering new acting, writing and directing talent.

The play that is currently showing, Drum belly by Richard Dormer, is a super show.
If you like the Cohen brothers, Reservoir Dogs, gangster type movies, you will like this.
The acting is superb - take another bow Declan Conlon, Liam Carney, Phelim Drew, David Ganly - in fact all the actors, wonderful ensemble acting. Very well directed and choreographed. Fab sixties music too. You can see the actors are enjoying themselves on stage. Funny, black, post-modern. Thoroughly recommend this show.

I first visited the Abbey Theatre in 1973. don't be surprised!. The Irish have written some of the best books and works of theatre in the world, and seeing a show at the Abbey is not only excellent, it is a must do part of Irish history

We happened to check to see what was going on at the Abbey before we left home and took a chance on the first preview of Drum Belly, written by Richard Dormer and directed by Sean Holmes -- fabulous.
