Owner description: The Abbey Theatre's founders W.B. Yeats and Lady Gregory had the vision to 'bring upon the stage the deeper thoughts and emotions of Ireland'. Our ambitious artistic programme of classic Irish drama and new Irish writing holds a mirror up to Irish society. Over the years, the Abbey has nurtured and premiered the work of major Irish playwrights such as Marina Carr, Frank McGuinness, Tom Murphy and a new generation of writers such as Richard Dormer, Stacey Gregg, Nancy Harris and Elaine Murphy. We also nurture a new generation of Irish artists through our artistic development programmes and commitment to discovering new acting, writing and directing talent.

Excellent performance, recommed it, such good value and completely enjoyable afternoon. Catch it while you can, I think it finishes in March.

A really nice thing to do in Dublin. This is a modern style of theatre, which is nice and central, seats were excellent in what is a long performance. The view was first rate and so was the production of King Lear. The staging, and complicite style worked tremendously well. Individual performances were really good, in fact faultless. There is a nice bar upstairs and a glass of Jamesons warmed me up nicely before the performance. It was quite late and freezing cold when we came out after the performance but a row of taxis outside whisked us back to our hotel for less than 10 euros. The Abbey website is really useable and helpful. Highly recommended.

My husband and I are avid theatre goers and always enjoy going to the Abbey. All seating is good and view is great from all parts of the theatre. Very central location.

Always a great night here. A lovely theatre. Seating is comfortable and nicely tiered but could do with a little more leg room. Saw King Lear last week and it was very enjoyable as has any play I have seen there.
