I went to see this production of the Tennessee Williams classic in the Gate on a suitably hot and sultry night. The Gate have yet once again produced a winner. This is a marvellous production and the cast are brilliant.Lia Williams is convincing as the unfortunate Blanch whose veneer of respectability is slowly stripped away and she ends up in a world of delusion. Equally strong performances Garrett Lombard as Stanley Kowalski who persistently chips away at Blanchs deceptions and Catherine Walker who plays his wife, The play is complex with many subplots.
The fall from grandeur of a once proud family now living in tiny apartment and how Stanley reacts to the pretentious airs and graces of Blanch. This is a complex work and this production does it justice. Highly recommended
