I went to see this production of the Tennessee Williams classic in the Gate on a suitably hot and sultry night. The Gate have yet once again produced a winner. This is a marvellous production and the cast are brilliant.Lia Williams is convincing as the unfortunate Blanch whose veneer of respectability is slowly stripped away and she ends up in a world of delusion. Equally strong performances Garrett Lombard as Stanley Kowalski who persistently chips away at Blanchs deceptions and Catherine Walker who plays his wife, The play is complex with many subplots.
The fall from grandeur of a once proud family now living in tiny apartment and how Stanley reacts to the pretentious airs and graces of Blanch. This is a complex work and this production does it justice. Highly recommended

The Gate theatre is a bit old and could get hot on a warm evening but they but on a good show when we visited. We saw Enemy of the People which raises some good issues about how politicians can distort the truth. Would look for what's on here the next time we visit Dublin.

Perhaps I've never seen a better stage performance in my life than the production of Ibsen's "Enemy of the People". The ensemble acting, the direction and staging were simply outstanding. We had great seats at prices far more reasonable than you can find in London or New York.

We Had a great night at the play Enemy of the people, while the first act was a little too long the second act more than made up for it, excellent acting great venue, and is why I return to the Gate time after time

The Gate is a wonderful theatre right in the centre of the historical heart of Dublin. It is not as grand as the Gaiety, but is more intimate and just as enjoyable. Has consistently good plays and I find myself going there more often than any other Dublin theatre at the moment.

Enemy of the People is showing at the moment and is definitely worth seeing. The two brothers, one an idealist the other a realist, have very different views on how to handle the news that their town's cash cow is a public health hazzard. Set in Norway during the mid-20th century, the play is extremely apt and relevant to this day. Well worth a look.
