You have to relax on the grass at this park. I say that because it was the most relaxing thing I did on my visit to Dublin. Grab a bite, bring a pleasant read with you and enjoy the relaxing sounds of the birds and take in the picturesque sights around you. The life!!!
Hard to believe that it is situated right in the centre of the city as it is so serene. Also it is the largest city park in Europe.

The Phoenix Park is a beautiful place to visit whether just for a walk or for a picnic and just to enjoy the greenery for a while. You can walk for hours in the park. The deer walking around freely are just fantastic. It is amazing to see exactly how many people use the park on a daily basis. There are lots of different tracks to walk and lovely lakes around the park.
Dublin Zoo is also located in the Phoenix Park which is worth a visit. It's just a crying shame that there are double yellow lines almost everywhere now which takes the freedom and enjoyment out of a spur of the moment visit. People are terrified parking now in fear of returning to a ticket or a clamp on their car. There are allocated car parks but they are almost always full. I don't understand why they stopped allowing cars to park along the main road. Just be aware of this if visiting. Also, the headquarters for the Gardaí is situated in the park, yet believe it or not there is a record number of cars broken into on a daily basis!

This is a great park at any time of the year, but I returned to go for a run on the morning of December 28, in the middle of a trip to visit friends in Dublin. If you enjoy running, this is the place to go, particularly if you enjoy running on grass as there are verges the entire length of the park and mown parts of the grass at the sides of most of the roads. Just remember to watch for cars as it is shared by traffic.
