I was a bit under wowed by the Book of Kells, but I wholeheartedly recommend the tour that the college kids give leading up to visiting the old library. Our guide was informative, funny and interesting. Seeing the Book of Kells would cost 9 euro and the tour was only 1 extra euro, so it was well, well worth the cost.

The book of 'Kells' dated from about 800AD is the essential viewing. Be aware its not always on display so you will need to check locally. The whole experience is an education. So much history in one place.

There is a reall buzz around Trinity College. The Douglas Hyde gallery is located here - this is a little disappointing. The library here is astounding - a must see.

I guess one has to go to Trinity College when in Dublin. We bought our ticket to see the book of Kells from one of the tour guides in the college. The tour was ok but there isn't really much to see. We then had to line up with everyone else buying tickets to see the Book (even though we had our tickets)! Not a very efficient way of doing things. However, we can now say we have seen the Book of Kells.

only there to see illuminated books (kells & amaugh). several very good short videos on how books were produced. then upstairs to view the "Longroom" which is still an active & operating part of their library even though the books are antiques themselves.
