If you have an hour and want to learn about the writing and writers of this fine country, I would recommend that you stop here. The admission was reasonable, and the cheerful young woman at the front desk will hand you a device for your audio tour. You go at your own pace and stay as long as you like, but we found an hour did it for us to learn the history of writing in Ireland in general and a little about quite a few particular writers. We were glad we did it!

The exhibitions are dated and drab. Some of the labels were worn with turned up corners and some just printed on copy paper! The two rooms are tightly packed. I found it hard to read the tiny descriptions on the wall without leaning on the huge glass cases in front of them, which you are not allowed to do, so I had to rely solely on the boring step by step audio guide. The writers room upstairs is breathtaking but this whole place needs a good update to really inspire and engage the paying customer. My tip: keep your expectations low as to not be disappointed.

Like others have said...there is no cheerful welcome. That same sense of ennui permeated the very exhibits we slowly made our way through. The audio guide was far too long with less than interesting information. The written biographical information was also poorly presented. I opted to visit here first and then ran out of time for the Joyce center. The best thing about this museum was that it sheltered us from the rain! Thinking about the experience still makes me yawn!!

The information on the writers featured in the exhibition was interesting if a little tired in execution, but what about all the late twentieth and twenty first century writers such as Heaney, O 'Brien and Doyle? Its aim may be to focus on writers that lived and wrote in Dublin, but Ireland has such a rich literary heritage surely they could present a more modern and broader exhibition.

I love litersture and history and with the digital guide you obtain here you get both at once. I leared very much from the visit and even took.notes on what would be "the must" to be read in a future.
