“Great information and beautiful sights”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2014

My boyfriend and I took this tour this past weekend and it was really excellent. Our tour guide, Jerry, was a great storyteller and very informative. From geology to military history to politics to folklore, Jerry was knowledgeable on an enormous array of topics and made us appreciate what we were seeing that much more. He was also pretty funny. Our bus driver, Shane, also did a great job of driving us around winding country roads, past cyclists and tractors.

The sights themselves are great, with stops at Glendalough and a walk between two lakes where there is a 1,000 year old monastary (soon to be world heritage site), followed by a stop in Kilkenny to tour a medieval castle and city. I thought this tour was a great value. There are snacks and drinks available at Glendalough and then lots of good options for lunch in Kilkenny. Though we ate above the design store (right where the coach parks) and thought the food was mediocre and overpriced, so I'd recommend skipping that one.

Last note: when the tour guide tells you when to be back at the bus (in five languages!) be back at the bus at that time! Two girls sitting behind us were chattering nonstop the entire drive up and as the driver was talking, so they missed the information on where and when to be picked up, and were left behind in Glendalough (after we waited for them for close to 20 minutes)! It was a much more pleasant trip after that, when we were actually able to hear the guide!

“Wonderful experience”

Tour was worth every penny. Our tour guide Brian was fantastic. Our bus driver Adrian(?) was a real pro! The tour ran exactly on time- bus was very comfortable. The sights were without comparison- simply beautiful. Brian gave us plenty of information- along with very entertaining commentary. It was just a very pleasant experience from start to finish.

“Fabulous journey to country settings”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2014 via mobile

Comfy bus with free wifi was driven expertly by Seamus. Patricia provided running commentary, mixing history, modern news, and folklore. When we arrived for our lake walking tour, it was pouring rain. But Patricia braved the weather and led the poncho-clad guests down the forest trails. I'm so glad my teenager had the option to be driven back down to the hotel where she got hot chocolate. The rain and Patricia's brisk pace made taking smartphone pics a challenge but it was worth it.

Lunch in Kilkenny is on your own - may I recommend the Hibernian. Skip the interior tour of the castle, 6 euros and not that exciting. Plenty to see on the exterior.

“Worth every penny!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2014

What a fantastic tour! The pick up point was clearly sign posted on Nassau St and you are greeted with a lovely irish welcome. The female tour guide on our coach was incredibly knowledgeable and was clearly passionate about the history of Ireland and was also from Wicklow so her local knowledge was second to none. Glendalough is stunning, we walked from the upper lake to the graveyard and the famous bell tower. We then went on to Kilkenny via the beautiful Wicklow Mountains. Kilkenny is a lovely place with a huge complex opposite the Castle selling quality Irish made crafts and products (thank God for internationally shipping), the town itself is very pretty and we were given plenty if time to explore. I strongly recommend getting out of Dublin for the day with Collins, a great trip.
