My boyfriend and I took this tour this past weekend and it was really excellent. Our tour guide, Jerry, was a great storyteller and very informative. From geology to military history to politics to folklore, Jerry was knowledgeable on an enormous array of topics and made us appreciate what we were seeing that much more. He was also pretty funny. Our bus driver, Shane, also did a great job of driving us around winding country roads, past cyclists and tractors.
The sights themselves are great, with stops at Glendalough and a walk between two lakes where there is a 1,000 year old monastary (soon to be world heritage site), followed by a stop in Kilkenny to tour a medieval castle and city. I thought this tour was a great value. There are snacks and drinks available at Glendalough and then lots of good options for lunch in Kilkenny. Though we ate above the design store (right where the coach parks) and thought the food was mediocre and overpriced, so I'd recommend skipping that one.
Last note: when the tour guide tells you when to be back at the bus (in five languages!) be back at the bus at that time! Two girls sitting behind us were chattering nonstop the entire drive up and as the driver was talking, so they missed the information on where and when to be picked up, and were left behind in Glendalough (after we waited for them for close to 20 minutes)! It was a much more pleasant trip after that, when we were actually able to hear the guide!
