“Fantastic Pub Meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2014 via mobile

We had dinner at Oil Can Harry's after a long day of sightseeing. What a great experience. Great traditional pub fare with outstanding service. Two of us had the fish and chips; one of us the Irish stew; and one the soup of the day. All portions were generous and the food was great. A nice pub atmosphere in a non-touristy setting. I highly recommend.

“Great atmosphere!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2014

The staff was very friendly. For road weary travelers most pubs seemed obnoxiously busy with wait staff less eager to help, but not this place! They were very busy (very) but all of the staff were kind, personable and did not nake you feel as if you were an inconvenience. This pub is the kind of place you would want down the street from wherever you worked/lived.

“Favorite Traditional Pub in Dublin”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2014

There are literally hundreds of pubs (if not thousands) in Dublin, and many types - from small and dingy, to slightly less dingy "old man" pubs, to the popular City Centre pubs that attract tourists, to the so called "super pubs," but my favorite pub, after over a year here, is Oil Can Harry's. And for one simple reason: the proprietors Tim and Wendy and the staff are friendly. That may sound odd, but service in many pubs (if not most IMO) is indifferent and unfriendly - even when not crowded, in most pubs you wait for the bartender to deign to come take your order, let alone engage you in any way other than to serve your order and immediately collect payment. But at Oil Can Harry's the staff is very friendly, attentive and engaged with their patrons. The atmosphere is always pleasant, even when crowded, and the food is better and more varied than at most pubs. It is not in City Centre, but also not far away, located between Merrion Square and the Canal - an easy walk from Grafton Street. Just a very, very pleasant place to have a pint, some food if you are hungry, and to sit and talk with friends or watch rugby or football (soccer).

“All pubs should be like this ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2014 via mobile

I'm going to paint a pre pub picture. I work nearby and was hiding a slight headache. (Hangover ) all day. I also tore my hamstring the night before . So , I was going home and was tempted in for 1. This pub does everything right- clean , friendly , welcoming, atmosphere , staff. If you own a bar , come here and see how it's done . Best I've seen and I worked in 6 bars in my youth and drank in more than I remember (literally ) . If in Dublin , get a taxi to lower mount street or hop on the DART to grabs canal . Top, top place . This bar is the proverbial bar all others are reaching for .( they also have a roof top south facing area and a nice quiet area for reading a good book. Perfect

“Steak Is Amazing!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 3, 2014

We work close to Oil Can Harry's so we pop in every week for a bite and a beer. They have a good selection of lunch, but for me the Steak Julienne is top notch - I ask for it rare, and rare is how it comes. Makes a welcome change from other pubs that serve it charred!

The family who run the place know us by our first names, but they seem to know most of their customers well and are always up for a small chat before lunch is served.

We've also tried the carbonara, the bangers and mash, and the blt sandwich which are all worth a try. There's loads of other tempting dinners but with an afternoon back in the office we're really looking for something light.

Try the Bailey's dessert - very tasty indeed if you have room.

Overall great value and friendly fast service. I'd recommend this family run pub to anyone...
