A standard business hotel, friendly staff, poor food, modern, clean rooms. Situated directly opposite O2, so not centre of town

We stayed in The Gibson last week before the Bavaria Racing Day and found it to be the best hotel we have stayed in when in Dublin. The hotel is modern and the staff are extremely friendly. The rooms are larger than normal and the shower is fantastic!
There is a modern feel and the lights under the bed are a nice touch! The TV is also bigger than normal.
We got room service as the restaurant was packed and they made a mistake with our order but were very nice about it and gave us complementary drinks and reduced the bill (even though we had to remind them on checkout)
If I had to find a flaw it would be the room service menu - it is quite limited.
This hotel will be my first choice when staying in Dublin again, especially when going to the O2 as it is literally across the road.

We stayed here on the 12th June for one night, check in was quick and efficient, the girl at reception was very helpful. The room was very big and very clean, plenty of storage and a nice big bed, the safe was free which was a nice surprise and having a fridge in the room was really handy, the bathroom was big and bright, wide variety of channels on the tv, we didn't eat in the restaurant but we did get food sent up to the room, the food was really nice and the room service was very fast (only 15 mins) to be delivered up to the room, staff were very friendly and helpful only down side is parking is €14 per night and the bed isn't the most comfortable.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2012

We stayed here at the end of April as we were attending a concert in the O2. This was our third visit to the Gibson so we knew the hotel fairly well. We were late arriving and were checked in by a very pleasant receptionist. Myself and my husband had booked and prepaid for a double room and my two daughters had booked and prepaid for a twin room, through Travel Republic. We were not entirely happy with our room allocation, but as we wanted to eat and have a drink before the concert, we didn't have time to complain and for all the faffing about that entails. The double room was a room suitable for wheelchair use, and so the entire bathroom was a wet room, I really hate when the whole bathroom floor is soaked from one shower. The' twin' room was a small double bed with a child's pullout bed. Twin?! Anyway we had food and drink in the bar and it was very good, even though it was packed and we barely got a seat,(recession?!) the service was excellent. Breakfast was also excellent.
On checking out the following morning we mentioned our dissatisfaction with the rooms to the receptionist and she said it to the manager. We explained why we didn't bring it to their attention the night before and he said they could not have done anything for us anyway as the hotel was fully booked. We reminded him that we had booked the rooms when we bought our concert tickets the previous Nov and deserved better. I said I really didn't mind about the double but the twin was a disgrace. He offered us a discounted room rate for our next visit, this was really nothing! as we paid 102e for the twin room and he was offering us the return visit for 99e! 3euro discount!! when we pointed this out he didn't budge. We didn't discuss it any further as we realised we were late checking in, 5.30pm and maybe that had something to do with it. Overall we did enjoy our stay, as it was very convenient to 02, but you should get what you book and pay for.

Room Tip: Make sure you get what you have paid for.

We stayed in this hotel as we were going to a concert in the o2 which is basically across the street from the hotel.

I can't recommend this hotel enough, very clean, great staff & beautiful rooms. When i made the booking i mentioned that it was our anniversary, when we arrived in our room there was a personal note from the manager along with a 2 of the nicest cupcakes i have ever tasted.

As other people have mentioned there is a Luas stop right outside the front door, 5 stops (roughly 10mins) takes you to the abbey street stop which is right across the street from the post office on o'connell street.

The rate we got (£100) included breakfast which was very nice, they had a full selection of cereals, breads, continental meats and full irish breakfast. Everyone we dealt with in the hotel were very friendly and knowledgeable and couldnt do enough to help.

As a side note we also went back to the hotel bar after the concert which & it was very lively, but not in a noisy way, the door staff at the entrance where only letting residents in, cocktails were €10 each, a bit pricey i thought, but no more so than any other bar in Dublin.

I would definitely recommend this hotel and will definitely be back at it, whether it be for another concert of just staying in Dublin.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 583 which had access to a communal balcony, king size bed, walk in shower.
