“Great tour of Wicklow and Glendalough!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2014

As you have to be 25 to rent a car in Ireland and the public buses only went to Wicklow city, we decided to take the tour. Also buses to Glendalough 20 euro return so why not take a tour with 25 euro and you get to see A LOT and are guaranteed to get back to Dublin!

The tour was absolutely amazing - the guide (sorry I forgot the name) was very funny and informative. We got to get out of the van a lot which was very pleasant. The guide also gave us coffee and crackers :) Was really relaxing to enjoy a cup of coffee looking at amazing views. I liked that it was a small group of people, with big groups there is the problem that you might not hear everything the guide is telling you.

We stopped in a pub with great food. If you are on a budget pack a lunch with you.

“Don’t take ‘over the top tours’ and rent a car!!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2013

Make this tour by yourselves!! It is easy to do so.
Rent a car and don't think all organised tours are worth it!
We went with 6 on a tour of OVER THE TOP TOURS. But we were really disappointed: the driver hardly ever stopped or slowed down while driving to take pictures although we asked him to stop more. He did not give the free coffee mentioned in the brochure, and just put his Irish music CD on when driving. We never went to places where no ‘normal’ traffic would go. At 5 ‘o clock we were back, having spend a long part of the journey on the motorway M11.

If you want to make the tour as they did: just take what is called the ‘Military Road’ (= R115) and drive until you come to Glendalough.
There you can find some place to eat and then you will easily find the church and cemetery everyone wants to visit. There is a large car park. The driver gave us 10 min explanation about the history of the place. If you come by yourselves, listen to what all the guides there are telling (it’s very crowded). When the driver sat in the restaurant, we went by ourselves to see the 2 lakes (easy: beneath the church, you follow the road signs and the crowd): You can choose the path to the right to go and come back through the other side.
At the second lake, there are free toilets. And a large car park. This walk to the 2 lakes is very nice.
Then the driver took us back to Dublin through the motorway M11. Again easy to find if you follow the road signs.
This trip is a bit more than 100 km and you can easily find it on Google Maps.
If you rent a car and go by yourselves, you will see much more as you will stop wherever your want. There are a lot of places where you can easily stop on that road if you want to make pictures.
And on the way back, you can find better than going on the Motorway M11.
‘Over The Top Tours’ has many drivers and many busses (ours was in a poor condition).
So if you book with them, you will not know who will be the driver and in which bus you will be. That’s why some customers are happy and some other are not!!

“Wicklow Day tour!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2013

The Wicklow Glendalough tour was amazing. Trip leader Denis was excellent making sure we got the most out of our day. Small group so we got a more intermit experience of the countryside. This trip is a must do whilst in Dublin!

“Great excursion into the countryside”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2013

We were staying in Dublin without a car for a couple days. We took the Wicklow and Glendalough tour. We were fortunate to have good weather which added to the scenery. Our tour guide Denis did an excellent job. He was thorough, friendly, knowledgable, patient and accommodating. We were 14 people and if anyone wanted to stop for pictures he'd stop if able. We had ample time at every stop. We only had a couple days in town and feel this tour was totally worth the near full day 9:30 AM - 6 PM.

“Totally amazing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2013

We did the Wicklow and Glendalough tour. One thing I really liked about this tour was that we were only 10 people in a van and Tommy, our driver and guide, gave us a more personalised attention.
It's certain that in this kind of tour one spends several hours in the mean of transport, but Tommy tried to do this time enjoyable by singing Irish songs and teaching us how to sing them. It was really fun.
Ireland is well known as the Emerald Island and you can understand why when you see places such as Wicklow mountains and Glendalough. This last one is especially beautiful.
