just returned from trip to this hotel with caledonian travel, the hotel and the rooms are very good but the arrangements for meals where somewhat confusing (three sittings) breakfast very early and dinner very late. being on the late dinner some nights it was nearly 21 00 hours before we were leaving the table, but do not be put off this trip with caledonian as it was first class from the coach driver to all of the staff at the hotel who were excellent,a very good holiday for the cost and i would certainly return to this hotel anytime, great trips also sligo, killybegs, and derry on the way home

Room Tip: we were in a room on the fourth floor which was very nice but the lift only goes to the third floor...

arrived at the abbey hotel on the four day donegal special.was not surprised by the layout as i had checked it out on the internet and was not disappointed.the trip was organised by CALEDONIAN TRAVEL and was an absolute bargain.the trip involves two days of travelling with sightseeing and shopping thrown in with two days in donegal town to do what you want.the hotel was very good, the rooms nice and spacious, good decor and comfortable beds.the staff were excellent and the food was first class.could not fault the hotel, well maybe the price in the bar was not what i was used to. our driver/courier,davy,was very knowledgeable, not just of the area, but of ireland as a whole and certainly knew his stuff, well done davy.he pointed us to a traditional irish pub,THE REEL BAR,run by husband and wife team of john and denise who made you feel very welcome, where there was musicians playing everynight and even asked anyone who could play,to join in.i think this tour runs for only a few weeks but would definitely consider next year if it takes place

Room Tip: i dont think it matters as you either look onto the town square or the river at the back of the hote...

Just on our Dining Experience alone, the best way to describe this is First Class and not possible to be any better. I would seriously recommend the 'special' €55 meal deal for two. We came here on Friday afternoon for a 2 nigh stay, first ever time in Donegal and will definately be back again and most definately to the Abbey Hotel. Everything about this Hotel is Top Class. All of the Staff here are so friendly and made out stay extra special.

just arrived home yesterday from the abbey hotel , this hotel is lovely its more art deco than modern but you were made to feel welcome from the moment you arrived, from the reception staff to the girls in the leisure centre couldnt do enough, lots of banter and happy smiles, the hotel itself is so cosy. we went with caledonian travel everyone on the trip was so pleased with the hotel, even the waitresses in the diining room were the same makin sure everyone got what they wanted our table of four asked if it was possible to have chips with our dinner one nite and this was brought out to us no problem. and the plate,s still had mashed and roast potatoes on it just incase we were still hungry . so a big thanks to them the food was lovely and plentyful breakfast included, i would definetly go back again this hotel is spotless staff happy and helpfull made my wedding aniversary a memorable occasion so thank yo all staff, i am a regular reviewer and tell it as it is ok some rooms looked on to a wall and vents but you only sleep in it its the cleanliness and staff i go on and you couldnt fault this hotel so well done the abbey.

Stayed at the Abbey Hotel on coach tour from Monday to Thursday. We enjoyed the atmosphere of this hotel. The staff were very helpful. We were a large party of 51, but keys and rooms were quickly allocated and a large lift took us up swiftly to our room on the third floor. Our room was big and the heating was superb for January.Everything was spotless. Breakfast was canteen style, so able to put together, what I liked. Dinner was two choices per course for the Tour. Staff worked hard to see that no one was kept waiting. We had drinks in the big bar and enjoyed the Irish Folk tunes by the entertainer. The Abbey is on the square, so the shops and bank are around it. We visited Magees, famous for Donegal Tweed. It has now a coffee shop. The locals are friendly people, stopping for a chat.We liked this hotel and town.
