“We wish we could've stayed longer”
Reviewed September 12, 2013

My husband and I went to Donegal for a wedding at Harvey's Point. We stayed at The Arches Country House our first night in Donegal on Thursday, September 5, 2013. It was my second time at an Irish B&B and my husband's first. My husband was extremely impressed, as was I. Since we were both in the wedding party, we stayed at Harvey's Point for the night before and the night of the wedding. But I must say, we were so pleased with The Arches, we should've stayed there longer. Noreen was incredible and made us feel right at home. She told us where to go for traditional Irish music and set us up with the best taxi driver. We used him two nights in a row to go into town. The room was immaculate, spacious, and more than comfortable, and the view was incredible. Our Irish breakfast was simply delicious. We cannot say enough about our stay at The Arches and hope to go back again with our children, as our room could've easily accommodated them as well. Thank you Noreen, for your hospitality and a wonderful stay!

We stayed at the arches country house last August for two nights. I wish we had planned a longer stay. The room was great, very clean and well kept, the bed was very comfortable and breakfast was excellent. There was a beautiful view of Lough Este from our window, even when it rained, because we had the beautiful garden in front of our room.
There were so many beautiful places to see in the area that we could have easily stayed for two more nights.

The Arches is, by far, the nicest B&B in Ireland! The view, the accommodations, the food and hospitality are all outstanding. My family highly recommends this wonderful bed and breakfast. We plan to make this a yearly trip to Donegal.

Room Tip: Every room is top notch.

Booked The Arches for a 1 night stay after reading reviews on Trip Advisor ... (And pricing a one night stay at the hotel close by!) Everything previously said is true. Amazing view, great rooms, lovely welcome and first class breakfast-especially the coffee. Spotlessly clean too! If you've come this far in your search, you don't need to look any further.

We had the privilege of staying three nights recently at the Arches. We were
there to attend a wedding at Lough Este Castle.
We had stayed at several B&B's during our trip and all were wonderful, but we definitely saved the best for last.
The house is so beautiful overlooking Lough Este and the grounds were truly magnificent.
We were greeted by Noreen who showed us to our large, clean and nicely
appointed room overlooking the lake. The view was so beautiful we didn't
want to leave.
The breakfast was very good with fresh fruit and several choices, but the
french toast was special. I had it twice.
Noreen was a gracious host and very helpful. She even called us a taxi to take us to the wedding so we wouldn't drive back late at night.
Donegal Town is about a 10-15 minute drive and Noreen was helpful in giving
us directions and dining options. Thank you, Noreen. It was a wonderful
stay and I would definitely recommend The Arches to anyone staying in the area.

....to ireland that is, without staying at the arches! caught ya' didn't i?

this was my sixth trip to ireland unfortunately i didn't discover the arches until our fourth or fifth visit, but we've been there every time since, always staying at least two or three days. of course we admit to being partial. we love donegal, the coastal drives to slieve league and points north, and of course the arches simply beautiful view of lough eske. if you were paying for the view only, the fair could be twice as high and it wouldn't be too much. similarly, we've grown to truly love noreen. she is part of the draw to revisit ireland time and again, despite the fact that we've never shared a meal where she wasn't serving! one of these days we hope she'll either visit us to allow us to return the favor gratis, or at least break bread at dom's or the castle pub.

whatever you do, i suggest you don't just show up and disappear into donegal town, despite the charm of the village square. relax and enjoy your favorite cup of tea, draft of guinness, or dram of whatever you like best, down by the fountain on the arches front yard. the mister does a fabulous job on the landscape and all the upkeep, recently renovating the bathrooms to an even higher standard than they were before, which was perfectly fine for 90% of the b&b's in ireland. but noreen doesn't settle for 90%, she's a piece of work!

Room Tip: noreen is notorious for giving some of the best rates in ireland when she isn't fully booked, es...

I can highly recommend this B&B close to Donegal Town on the pictoresque Lough Eske. My room was very large, beautifully decorated, very clean and with everything you need to make your stay comfortable. The view from my window was stunning. Noreen is a great host and the breakfast very good.
