“Beautiful Scenery and Great Comfort”
Reviewed July 5, 2012

I have stayed at the Arches Country House many times and Noreen McGinty, the gracious hostess always comes up to the excellent mark. What a place! The views are amazing and the rooms are so well appointed, sparkling clean, and private. The rooms are quite large and offer comfortable chairs to just sit and drink a cup of tea and look at the scenery. The bathrooms are large, the towels are luxurious and the showers are great with plenty of hot water. The beds are comfortable and the pillows are to die for. The whole place was obviously built with your comfort in mind. The breakfasts are terrific with creative choices on the menu and good coffee. The Arches Guest House is off the beaten path and only a short drive into Donegal. The surroundings are quiet and peaceful. This is a very special place with very reasonable rates. Don’t miss it.

We recently completed a 3 week vacation during which we drove around the entire island of Ireland. Over 20 nights we stayed in 18 different Bed & Breakfasts, paying between €50 to €80, and £60 to £65 in Northern Island. This review is based upon the relative merits of Arches Bed & Breakfast with respect to other B&Bs that we visited. Of the eighteen B&Bs we visited, I only awarded 5 star ratings to the five very best. Arches merits a five star rating because I felt it was an exceptionally nice place to stay.
We paid €65 for the one night of our stay, including breakfast. What a bargain! For €65 we staying in a huge suite and got a wonderful breakfast. Payment was requested in cash; apparently the phone companies in Ireland charge an exorbitant fee to maintain a phone-line for processing credit card transactions.
Our room at Arches was easily the largest room of our entire visit to Ireland. We stayed in Room 1, and it was actually a suite – a huge master bedroom, plus an additional bedroom with two extra beds in it. A gigantic bathroom. Best of all were the large windows facing south looking over the lake. Once I saw how nice our room at Arches was, I was a bit disappointed that we arrived so late in the day that we didn’t have more time to enjoy it.
Arches is located a good distance outside of Donegal, you definitely will need to drive your car into town for dinner – much too far to walk. But this remoteness means it sits on quiet piece of land with a great lake view. Once you find the correct lane to turn onto from N15, you can follow the signposts to the B&B.
The breakfast at Arches was a treat. I had the omelet breakfast, my wife had the French Toast. Both were excellent.
Arches is a bit of a drive from Donegal, but you can’t beat the combination of price, great food and marverlous rooms. I highly recommend it.

This home is truly beautiful. It is a distance from the town, and the roads to get there are winding, so I wouldn't want to drive out there late at night after a night in town, but the place itself is simply wonderful. The food is great, and the rooms are beautiful. The breakfast was also outstanding.

Took me over year to write this, but better late than never. By far, the best b n b we've been to. The view from our room overlooking the lake was fantastic! Noreen is crazy (in a good way). Best service, room, view, and breakfast.

What a lovely view, and the room was probably the best of all the rooms we occupied, due to the very modern bathroom. Great food. Noreen was quite nice.

We spent 2 nights with host Noreen and it was the most wonderful visit during our 10 day stay in Ireland. Noreen was charming, helfpful and extremely gracious. The home was beautiful, the rooms were large, the beds were comfortable and the breakfast was wonderful each morning. I highly recommend this B&B while visiting Donegal.
