The Central Hotel - Donegal

Chose this hotel for a brief stay after reading the reviews on the tripadvisor site. On arrival there was no parking available so we had to leave our car in a public car park over night. On hindsight I wished we had stayed in the car. Whilst the room was nicely decorated and clean, it was on the first floor and was situated directly over the dance hall, which meant we did not get to sleep to gone three in the morning. As smoking is banned in public places in Eire, those wishing to smoke stand outside and yes it was just below our room they stood smoking for what seemed the entire night. Even with the window shut we could still hear their conversations and the room smelled of smoke the entire time. We asked to be moved but this was not possible as the hotel was full. What little sleep we did get was wrecked due to the bed and pillows being so uncomfortable. Breakfast was a joke the next morning, every request had to be given at least three times and they still got the orders wrong. I have contacted the hotel to complain and have been offered one free place should we ever stay again. Somehow that's an offer I don't think I'll be taking up. Take my advice sleep in your car rather than give your hard earned money to the Central Hotel, you will be a lot more comfortable.

Stayed overnight in the hotel in Donegal Town. Easy to find as its on the main square of the town. Hotel has a nice swimming pool (just under 6 foot depth with attached kiddie pool) which is free for guests to use, also a gymn, jacuzzi and steam room which is open to 10pm and adults only after 7pm. Large restuarant with well priced menu and nice food, lifts to all floors and over 200 rooms in the hotel. TV's are little small but good cable tv feed and excellent reception. Staff are friendly and will help without asking! Only downside was getting a room with a view of the side of the hotel wall, if you are booking a room, ask for one with the sea view at the back of the hotel - i will next time!! Lots of car parking, but maybe too far away from the hotel in places when the hotel is being used for functions or the gymn so get there early before the 4pm check-in!
