The Central Hotel - Donegal
Ranked #5 of 7 Hotels in Donegal Town
Reviewed October 19, 2012

I stayed here in July 2012. This hotel is in a great location, right in the middle of Donegal Town, the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly and after some hard travel, so appreciated. The room was comfortable, bathroom was nice, super clean, great water pressure in shower, nice windows on courtyards, rooftops, and with town views, theres a gym and pool on the ground floor. Pretty quiet for the center of town and a busy lobby and bar. Buses stop pretty much at the door, taxis across the street, great restaurants steps away (Castle Bar, Blueberry Cafe). I am frequently in Donegal, and this will now be my place to stop.
Also, locals frequent the bar and restaurant which is such a plus for many reasons.
I have read a few other reviews and am baffled by the negative. If you are expecting a Doubletree Courtyard Hotel Corporate type of experience in Ireland, you might not have the same experience as I did. But if you'd like to enjoy a real Irish experience in an incredible Irish town, this is a good place.
If I had one request, it would be for maybe a ceiling fan or something in the room...I was there in July and it was a bit humid...though I don't know how often that would be an issue... ;->

The room was very poor regarding the bedding. The bathroom was the size of a postage stamp and the towels were very thin. The food was good as was the service. The three stars of this hotel was reasonable accurate.

I spent 4 nights here, from the 3rd October to 7th October the hotel was clean and tidy.
My room was ok, clean and tidy but the room was quite small for a what i was paying.
The staff were friendly.
Also the breakfast was good.
Shame about the area was a reel let down also the locals didnt really like the english to much.
But that was not the hotel`s fault.
To be honest i wouldnt go back, and if i did i would try a different hotel.
The hotel price was expensive for what the area had to offer, so i would say shop around for a cheaper option.

We spent two nights here. It's a warm, welcoming hotel. Rooms are a bit dated but clean and adequate. We got a superior room overlooking the bay which was nice. Superior I think because it had a single bed as well as the double but not because of any extras otherwise. It was small. Maybe I'm being picky but I would have liked to see hot chocolate sachets with the tea and coffee, and also biscuits would have been nice. The Thursday evening meal and show was an experience. We enjoyed the lovely food and the service was excellent. When the entertainment started we were thinking we were too young (mid 50s mind you) as Foster & Allen came on. However an excellent violinist, superb Riverdance dancers, very funny May McFetteridge and great singer Kim Dickinson saved the night. The resident musicians are great too. By the time the last act came on we'd had enough. The breakfasts were average. I've had better. The pool and jacuzzi were lovely but the steam room wasn't working. Overall it was an average hotel for the price.

Located in the centre of the town hence its name is handy. Pool jacuzzi and steam room are a bonus. Rooms are average and food is average, receptionists are sound and Sinead in the bar is great craic, love Kev and Darren x

Stayed at this hotel for four nights on a coach tour from Scotland and must say we couldn't fault it in any way. The staff were very efficient and friendly, the food was very good with prompt service and the room we stayed in very spacious and comfortable. As another reviewer said (probably on the same trip) the two shows we went to in the hotel were excellent and so professionally run by the manager and staff. If you're visiting Donegal town I would highly recommend this hotel, it is as the name suggests in the centre of the town or the Diamond as they call it.

Room Tip: We stayed on 3rd floor think rooms on 1st floor might be smaller
