“Absolute ignornance of particular staff member”
Reviewed August 16, 2014

On Wednesday 13th August last my sister-in-law, husband and I spent a lovely day touring South West Donegal. Having visited Sliabh League, Glencolmcille, Rosbeg, Narin and Portnoo, we made our way back via Glenties to Donegal town arriving there around 6.00 pm. We strolled around the town for about 45 minutes before making our way to the Olde Castle Bar for something to eat. We were shown to our table and placed our order. We enjoyed a lovely meal and drinks and sometime after 8.00 pm my husband visited the bathroom and on his way back decided to pay the bill. My sister-in-law and I stayed at the table as we had not finished our drinks and we were deep in conversation when a male member of staff came up to our table. He said "he's up there paying the bill was everything alright" to which we replied "yes". He then said "we are badly stuck for a table" and proceeded to clear our table and separated the two tables which left my sister-in-law sitting in limbo with her drink in her hand. We were absolutely flabbergasted at his attitude and we were left with no option but to finish our drinks standing up while at the same time trying to put on our jackets. My husband still had some of his drink to finish as he intended to come back to the table. We proceeded to walk up the floor to the bar and were met by another staff member who asked us if everything was OK. He obviously knew by the look of utter disbelief on our faces that it was not. He followed us to the bar where my husband was paying the bill and asked us again if everything was alright to which we replied it was not and recounted what had just happened. He apologised profusely to us and said it should not have happened. At this stage our evening was ruined so no apology would put it right and all we wanted to do was to get out of the place. Needless to say we will not be in a hurry back.

“Nice, nice, nice!”
Reviewed August 15, 2014

On the recommendation of our B&B host we arrived for dinner without a booking but that was not a problem at all, table was found quickly as well as menus and drink orders taken. Ordered local fish and that was simply delicious. Prepared well and cooked well giving you the feeling somebody cares. Dinner was also very reasonably priced which was a surprise to us. Visited the pub a second time for a drink only and again everything was taken care of swiftly and with a smile. Do make time for a stop if you are in the Donegal area.

“Free wi-fi”
Reviewed August 12, 2014

Tried to dine here but they stop serving food at 9 pm and we arrived later. We had to flag down someone to get a drink. Customer service was minimal and staff was brusque. Seems like a typical tourist oriented place, where the staff has become complacent. They had some Irish story telling going on that seemed pretty cheesy. It was a neat building and had a cozy feel inside. It served the purpose of providing a pint and free wi-fi.

“Excellent”
Reviewed August 10, 2014

We ate dinner at the Olde Castle Bar from the suggestion of our B&B host Liam. We were not disappointed at all! The service was wonderful and our meals were delightful. My husband loved his Seafood Pie and I loved my chicken with mashed potatoes. After our meal, we enjoyed a session of a storyteller! It was an excellent Irish experience all around.

“Lovely meal”
Reviewed August 10, 2014

Visited the upstairs restaurant on 7th Aug with my husband and 2 kids aged 13 and 4.There were no tables downstairs in the bar so we were directed upstairs and were seated straight away despite having no reservation.Menu was varied and gave a good mix of seafood and meat dishes.I opted for seafood pie while my hubby had the lamb shank. Both were deemed delicious. Our son had mussels with a side of chips while the little one had fish cake from the kids menu which was huge.Desert was a gorgeous chocolate brownie while hubby had the banana cake which he raved about.Service was friendly, prompt and unintrusive. All in all couldn't fault a thing!
