Loved the quirky dinging room, very unique! The food was just fantastic. We were a group of 6 and every one of us loved every course. There are wonderful choices for those more adventurous diners and choices to suit the non-adventurous also. I would highly recommend the ivory tower for a dinner with friends or a romantic night out. The waitress was lovely and Seamus would chat about the food when the opportunity arose to, which was was lovely and added a very personal touch to his restaurant! How he and his chefs produce such wonderful food from such a tiny kitchen is just astonishing! I loved the way the meal lasted hours. Don't go if you want to rush in and out. This is a place to enjoy food, digest and relax between courses and savour every mouthful! I really will be looking forward to the next time we go!

Hi PaxBan

Thanks for the review. Yes, I guess 'Odd' is not an unfair description of the restaurant. We prefer 'Different' and 'Unusual' and we do try to stand out from the crowd. And of course you are right - this is absolutely without doubt a place for people who love good food and are tired with eating the same-old same-old that most restaurants offer.

Really glad you enjoyed the food. Thanks for the 5 stars, and hope to see you back again soon.

One of best restaurants in cork. Been here 3 times now and never know what you might end up eating. All tastes great and presented beautifully. Great opportunity to try new foods. Inside is quirky and might not be to everyone's taste. Only down side is that the 5courses are a lot to have late at night so early sitting is advisable.

Hi Eilis
Thanks for your kind review, and its a good point you make about what time you book the table for. We've worked hard to make the Ivory Tower a 'destination restaurant' - and a place you come to enjoy a long and delightful meal. It's not a 'grab a bite' type place in any way or form. So, whether you are looking for our 5-course taster menu or one of our special taster menus, if you don't like eating late at night we suggest an early booking.
Allow at least 2 hours for a taster menu, more if you want to really take your time and enjoy it all.

Thanks Frankie for those words. They mean all the more as I see you don't bother reviewing many places and you don't hand out 5 stars easily!
Hope you come back soon.

I adore sushi and I sent my husband way out of his way to get some when he was in Cork- Big mistake. My mouth now feels numb after it. I have eaten eaten and enjoyed sushi in several countries and never have I tasted anything as bad. I will never go back or recommend this restaurant.

Dear Aideen

We were very upset to hear about your experiences, and we didn't take this review lightly. After reading it we spent some time investigating.
We can assure you that:
+ every piece of fish you ate was purchased that day in the English Market
+ Japanese-trained head chef Seamus sampled every piece, as he does every evening before service
+ three other diners had the same sushi as you did and both were very happy. One couple made a point of telling us how superb they had found the dinner

You say your mouth 'tingled' after eating the sushi. We don't think there is any way that could happen, unless you had an allergic reaction.

A very small minority of people do have an allergic reaction to raw scallop. Although you say that you've had sushi in several countries before, we wonder if you've eaten raw scallop before?

We do hope you'll visit the restaurant one day and we can prove to you that all food from our kitchen is always prepared to the highest standards.
