Would recommend this restaurant highly. It is small and intimate and a pleasant experience. Wine list a little limited

I have lived in Cork since 2004 and over the last 7 years jacques has been the most consistent and best top end restaurant in the city. Highlights on the menu that I have particularly good memories of include Khattafi prawns with a soy based dip, lambs tongue or black pudding based starters, also I have very good memories of a monkfish on beetroot risotto and John Dory simply grilled with crisp vegetables and a fried duck dish that was perfectly cooked. The quality of ingredients is always excellent and fish dishes are particularly good. The menu can be a little short, but it always changes and there is generally a surprise such as sherry with almonds as a suggested aperitif. The wine list is also short and the room is a little bland, but service is very personal and all the staff are familiar with the dishes and are generally happy to recommend dishes and/or wines to accompany them. All lin all hard to beat. Its not partiularly cheap (particularly on wine) with mains at €20-25 and starters at €8-13, and there is generally a menu fixe at a lower price. For the quality of food and service it does represent value for money and there are plenty of more expensive local alternatives which are not as consistently good.

Having found this little gem by mistake on a web search, we were delighted at the food. Starting with beautiful home made bread, then a fantastic black pudding starter followed by a well above average chicken main. Every table was slightly laid out differently, with detail changes to cutlery, candle holders, glassware etc. Value great as long as you stay with the 24 euro 3 course offer, but mains rise to 29 euro each if you stray to a la carte land... Great house red, but at 23 euro it should have been. Staff very polite and attentive, and apart from the large interior mirror needing a bit of wiping over, a very pleasant restaurant located in a great place.
