Owner description: Fota Wildlife Park is Cork's most visited Tourist Attraction and has been awarded best family day out in Cork and Munster. The Park is set on 70 acres on the scenic Fota Island in the heart of Cork Harbour only 15 minutes from Cork City (top 10 in the best cities to visit in the Lonely Planet guide's 'Best in Travel 2010').The park is not like an ordinary zoo; here you can come face to face with free roaming animals & birds from all parts of the world. So whether it's a kangaroo that hops in front of you or a ring tailed lemur which jumps down from a tree, each visit is sure to bring its own fantastic memories. In addition to the wonderful array of free roaming animals, visitors also have the opportunity to see highly endangered species such as the Rothschild giraffe, European Bison, Lion Tailed Macaque and Scimitar Horned Oryx, most of them without the obstacle of fenced-in exhibits. This is the most spectacular aspect of Fota Wildlife Park, and is the reason you'll want to spend a full day exploring Ireland's Wildest Attraction.
Useful Information: Food available for purchase, Activities for young children, Wheelchair access, Activities for older children, Bathroom facilities

We visited the wildlife park on a sunny day and had a really good day. It's a great place to visit and a brilliant day out for the family.

Nice size and selection of animals and when the weather is good, it's was sunny and warm when we visited, an enjoyable day out as you can walk and enjoy the animals and exhibits. Animals well looked after in spacious and often open enclosures and lots of information to read on what you are seeing. There is also a land train if the walking is a bit too much.

Lots of play areas dotted around for the kids to let of some steam and also places for drinks/snacks or meals. Good choice of animals and we particularly liked the giraffes and the cheetahs. Make time to see the cheetah run, a real experience to see. If you are in the area it's a definitely worth a visit and there are plenty of other things to see nearby too. You can bring picnics in too, plenty of places to eat your own food around the place.

Take the train from Cobh or Cork and it's only a few stops away. If you want to see both the wildlife park and the gardens allow the whole day. It took us all afternoon to view the animals and we were too tired to trek the distance to the gardens. Who knew you could see giraffes and cheetahs in such a quaint little town in Ireland! One of the best experiences of our visit.

Just returned from a fantastic day out!! The park is so clean & the variety of animals was great & so well looked after which is refreshing as we hate visiting zoos due to the cages etc!! The demonstrations were great to watch especially the cheetah run!! My son loved it & he's only 19 months. We had thought on taking a picnic solely due to a couple of the previous reviews but we didn't have time to pack 1, the food was absolutely fine!! Spent the whole day pottering round & the staff were so friendly & engaging! Would 100% recommend & return!!

Liked everything. Just a wonder hop off of the train returning from Cobh. The animals have a wonderful enviroment to live in and seem very well taken care of and happy! Lots of primate species that kept us laughing!
