I like Starbucks and have been to many of their outlets in different countries.
As a result, I was looking forward to my first visit to their new coffee shop in Mahon. I was not disappointed. The place is very well laid out and furnished, has a great atmosphere and the coffee itself is up to the usual high standards we associate with Starbucks. Added to this was the fact that the staff were great; friendly, efficient and customer focused. So what about the downsides, why only 4 stars ? With the beautiful weather we are having recently, I sat outside in the sunshine and was there for an hour or so. In all that time no one came to clear tables or to pick up the usual “rubbish” such as paper napkins and spent cups. As a result, one section of the outside seating area became the worst for wear. Another “Star looser” was the fact that only one loo was operational. The loo for the disabled was out of action, the other loo was allocated “Staff Toilet”. When I was there the place was quite busy and a line of 2-3 had to form for the loos. I ended up using the “staff only” one. It strikes me that no doubt the regulatory number of loos are provided; however this is a very popular spot and 3 loos (one being reserved for disabled, the other for staff) is not sufficient to cater for the number of customers. The day I was there it certainly was not sufficient, therefore the loss of a star for an otherwise great coffee shop.
