“Yummy yummy in my tummy”
Reviewed March 30, 2013

Went to Iyers today. I had the delicious masala dosa and a fair few bites of my husbands masala thali. Pistachio and rose water cake with chai tea completed our lovely lunch. The owner/chef brought us a taster of battered and spiced plaintain. good value veggie food. It is a small cafe which is open 12.30-5.30 Tues-Sat. Staff were lovely and there was a relaxed atmosphere. We will return.

“Extraordinary food & very popular”
Reviewed February 5, 2013

There is nowhere like this in Cork - possibly in Ireland.

Authentic South Indian cuisine cooked with dedication and integrity. Most of the food is wheatfree, as is natural to South Indian food and Gautham, the chef/owner, cooks according to ayurvedic principals. That means food is easily digested and still satisfying with no nasties that even can be found in India (eg. where 'fillers' are used in sauces to give bulk). Just full of amazing, exciting flavours.

(I admit I sound like I know more than I do about this stuff, but when he's not cooking Gautham is always happy to chat with customers about the food and ingredients. Anyone with food intolerances or digestive problems would be in the right place.

The place has become incredibly popular in a very short time. It's only been open a month but already they have had to close early on a few occassions because they ran out of food!

The dining room is south facing and filled with natural sunlight and they have a few tables outside for when the weather is dry. Lots of nice people there to meet!

The desserts are delicious too and about half the price of most places (€2/€2.50 for a slice of incredible cake - today it was a choice of Mango/Coconut/Pineapple or Pistachio/Rosewater - both were amazing!).

“Simply Excellent”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

I have been waiting to write a review for this new South Indian restaurant. It is so good and the word should be spread about such a gem.

Iyers prepares all vegetarian dishes, 90% of which are gluten free. The food is amazing. Spices are blended to perfection, not just "spicy" for the sake of it. Every flavour devolops the taste of the food perfectly. A real effort is made to compliment the side sauces (which also change daily) with the main meal.

The chef is lovely and very friendly, he makes a real effort to interact with his customers and happily talks about the food when it is quieter during the evening. He really know his stuff and prepares everything fresh everyday. He sources good products and the quality is reflected in the food. If you don't know what you want on the menu he will happily guide you through it. He also makes a fantastic chai tea, from scratch of course, which was such a welcome treat from the generic slop which can be found more readily around the city.

The menu changes daily although the dosas (which I highly recommend) are on the menu every day. Most foods are available to take away, which is perfect for lunch on the run.

This is great vegetarian food, with great service. I have brought carnivore friends and they were also really impressed. I would recommend it to every one. The one thing i will say is the restaurant itself is tiny, dont be put off if it's full, just wait in line or make sure to come back again. Originally open until 7, Iyers can now only stay open until 5.30 as once the fresh products run out they are gone..One thing im certain of, you can't miss out on this.

“Some of the best food to be had in Cork.....really!”
Reviewed January 19, 2013

Iyers is a new South Indian café & take away on the North quays in Cork. It is tiny - 10 people would fill it, friendly, family run and has a very pleasant ambiance.
It is the food, though, in Iyer's that is the real star. It is simply unbelievably good! Don't expect typical "Irish Indian" without the meat. You won't find those heavy, oily or creamy sauces so loved in these establishments. What you will get is delicate, fresh, South Indian food cooked by a very skilled cook with an amazing flair for flavours and flavour combinations - a taste sensation, if you will.
If the words Vada, Bondas, Idili, Dosa, Thali mean anything to you, then you've probably found this café already. If they don't mean anything to you - you should go and find out and treat yourself to an inexpensive treat of flavours.

Most dishes are also vegan with quite a few gluten free too.
Oh, and homemade cakes, cookies and chai/tea/coffee.
