I am a big fish and chips fan . Got this place suggested by a local . It is a tiny door giving onto a huge kitchen which i think belongs to an hotel or restaurant . Everything is made fresh in front of you . The portions are not generous .... It s huge . Tartare sauce was homemade and delicious . You won t regret your 8.5 euros .

We'd spotted Fish Hatch on the Saturday night. The name describes it - a small hatch window with a sheltered waiting area to the front. The waiting area is small and the tiled decor would make you think it was inspired by a traditional Turkish Baths. Inside they were readying very fresh (and substantial) fresh pieces of fish for either battering or grilling. We ordered two of the fish of the day - haddock. The fresh fish was dipped in batter and lightly fried. Served with a container of peas, the usual horseradish sauce in a Fish Hatch box, it stayed warm for the 10 minute walk to our car. We're not talking haute cuisine but this is an example of how to lift a staple food above the usual.

There are other eateries in the Cork City area who have built a name on serving fresh rather than frozen fish and chips. The Fish Hatch lacks the attitude but delivers more. Recommended.

Fresh fish in a nice crunchy batter, did not leave that horrible oily after taste, I am not a big chip eater but the chips provided were very nice
