We recently had dinner in there, the food was excellent and the service was very good. They could not be more helpful with ordering food and making recommendations of what to have and also the best wine for the meal. it was value for money and the food was the right amount. The place is small but that's what makes worth having a meal there. It certainly somewhere we would recommend if your visiting cork city like us.

Ate here last night with two friends. I was surprised at how small it is, seating was tight but lovely atmosphere. All the staff were so nice and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. As per our waiters recommendation we ordered a few different dishes and shared- everything was fab- breads and dips are a must as are the grilled fish, wedges and lentils. All very reasonably priced _ we will be back!

I have eaten lunch at Orso three of four times. The prices are reasonable though tending to rise. The salient feature of this restaurant is its very different menu relative to most places in Cork. Food is excellent and service good. Interesting curries, salads and vegetarian fare. Overall Orso is different and a step up from most lunch venues in Cork - but it is not expensive.

Booking is not possible but as we went at 7.00pm on a filthy wet windy night we expected to have the place to ourselves. It came as a surprise that we had to wait for a table for three of us. The waiting area at the bar was pleasant, if a little cramped.
None of us had been before so we did not have any expectations. This is a brave venture, opening a new restaurant in a tiny space in the middle of the most challenging economic conditions since the 1980s.
Our experience of Orso was partly good, partly bad, and a little bit that felt ugly.

The good.
The people behind Orso have succeeded in creating a menu which is fresh and appealing.
The welcome when we came in was great. We got updates as to when our table would be ready and we were shown the wine menu so we could relax while we waited.
The decor and furniture are easy on the eye.
The lighting is a subtle blend of muted uplighting on the walls and a candle on each table.
The service was quick and cheerful.
Special mention must go to their chocolate board idea as dessert.

The bad.
The tables are barely big enough for two, and are too close together for physical comfort. It felt claustrophobic and there was no privacy: the couple beside us were speaking almost in a whisper and we could not help overhearing.
The portions were miserly in some of the items we ordered. A prawns starter costing almost €8 consisted of two leaves of lettuce, a dip, and six or maybe seven average size prawns.
The main course of seared beef looked raw in the middle. They did take it back to cook it, and apologised for not warning us that it would be that rare. But that left us eating at different times, which kind of defeated the purpose of going out together for a meal. It would have been nice if they offered to keep the other food heated, or any other gesture.

The .... (insert your own unpleasant word here)
Our 17 year old daughter is adventurous enough for a teenager when it comes to food but nothing on the menu appealed to her. The person who served us was not in the least accommodating, declining even to give her some bread to nibble on the pretext that there was none left in the kitchen. This was despite the fact that three of the evening menu items included bread, and we could see it being served then as well as later. This was a very disappointing attitude, and left a sour taste in the mouth.

On the whole, not a great experience. Even when we were leaving, the staff member was too busy chatting with a person at the bar to say good night. Boo, Orso. I doubt that I will be back but could still recommend it for its redeeming features.

Ate here recently with friends and although quite busy, they took our number whilst we went for a drink next door in Maynes.- good start.
Lovely menu, great staff and brilliant atmosphere- just what Cork needs. The lemon, ginger and tomato dip is to die for and the courgette spaghetti was a definite hit.

Good value and good staff- Roll on next weekend :)
