“Nice accommodation”
Reviewed September 13, 2008

Stayed for two nights earlier this week during a brief tour of Cork & Kerry. Room was spacious, clean & comfortable. Good breakfast. Very helpful staff - especially the night porter who arranged an early breakfast for us (6.30 am) prior to an early flight home.

arrived after spending 5 nights in Grove house, SW cork - very god. wanted to stay 2 nights city so found this hotel on internet with fair price. decided upon arrival to upgrade to jacuzzi suite - big mistake, although i got a discount for upgrading?!
So extra 60Euro and what did we get ? a small bath with a few jets in it, hardly a jacuzzi i was expecting, the room was nice and clean, but nothing fancy, in fact a travel lodge would have been similar - which i wished i had booked, due to the cost,
the breafast was very good and was clean and tidy the hotel.
I complained to the front desk, but didnt get any help, most were polih and didnt understand me.

Lancaster Lodge is clean ,modern ,comfortable and perfect for a short stay in Cork. We have just returned from here after a 3 night stay along with friends for the August Bank Holiday .On arrival we found the Reception staff extremely helpful and after checking in to our room we we were not disappointed. The suite was spacious, with a large comfortable bed, and the bathroom modern with shower and jaccuzi bath . Breakfast choice was good ,the food plentiful, and well presented.Lancaster Lodge is a short walk from Cork centre, and there are numerous bars along Western Road.Try Reidy's Vault bar opposite for a warm irish welcome from host Maura. As a change to the city we visited Kinsale on the coast (approx 45mins by bus) and enjoyed the countryside views that this part of Ireland has to offer.Lancaster Lodge is a good choice and is value for money.

  • Liked — clean and comfortable value for money
  • Disliked — view of distant cranes

Lancaster Lodge was our final night's stay after a week in Ireland. Having stayed in B+Bs and hotels I too would not totally agree with the hotel's description on its website.
As described it is well situated on the edge of Cork a few mins walk to the centre, has ample parking and the staff were friendly and helpful. However it is not really 'boutique' - I'd think more like a UK Travelodge! Good sized rooms, well equipped with all the usuals, though over sprayed with air freshener and quite a small bathroom. A little bit noisy on the main road and the outdoor spot lights at night do let quite a bit of light in - maybe the back is quieter/darker?
Certificates in the entrance proudly display awards for their breakfast. I certainly had better in our time in Ireland! The cold buffet was virtually empty and was not refilled and the hot items were cooked to order and decidedly average (maybe we were the last to order as service was also a little on the slow side but the breakfast area was busy).
Maybe 'boutique' just means a small hotel/guesthouse in Ireland not somewhere that little bit special and unique as I'd imagined.

  • Liked — Close proximity to centre of Cork
  • Disliked — Not really 'boutique' accommodation

I would caution anyone booking through the Lancaster Lodge's own website to be careful. The website rather cleverly (and ever so slightly misleadingly) describes the Lodge as "4 star boutique accommodation", reflecting the fact that this is a 4* guesthouse rather than a hotel. Anyone looking for a luxury "boutique hotel" experience should look elsewhere.

That said, the Lancaster Lodge is a very nice guesthouse in a very central location in Cork. It is good value for money (we paid €99p/n for room-only), the rooms are comfortable and the staff are quite pleasant and helpful. But boutique hotel it ain't.

Stayed for two nights and this was the nicest hotel during our 12 day jaunt through Ireland. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and very modern. We did leave the windows open all night and at times some guests in the parking lot were very loud. Also a bright security light shined directly in the window, so in order the sleep in darkness, the window shades had to be drawn closed, which cut down on the air circulation. Overall a great stay and a short walk to city center Cork. We found shopping and food to be nearby.
