“master key given for rooms”
Reviewed August 29, 2012

styaed one night in this B/B had two rooms but found out in morning that we had the master keys for both the rooms same keys could open another room as well it was empty in morning and my daughter just wanted to check.
Rooms are spacious quieter at the back of property but could hear the next door guest chating early in the morning as they were leaving. Car parking is good. Cork city centre is a good 5 min in car dont think you will be able to walk unless really keen.
Staff not very friendly were just handed the keys and never even had wellcome smile from the girl when coming in or going out the rest of the day. decor is old fashioned.

Room Tip: towards back of proerty is quieter

This was our first visit to Ireland and we decided to make it an extended 4/5 day trip whilst also attending a big wedding. We had read fairly good reviews of the Belvedere and wanted to base ourselves in Cork. We were not disappointed. I'm not sure why there are complaints that the B&B is too far out. It's just at the end of one of the main big roads in the city. Yes, it takes about 10 minutes in the car to the centre, but that's not really as isolated as some have mentioned. Having got a bit lost and some troubles with our hire car we turned up quite late on the Thursday, but we had a really lovely warm welcome and shown to our rooms after a quick explanation of where everything was etc. Whilst the rooms are just a wee bit dated decor wise, they are still a darn sight better than I have seen at other B&B's. Everything was super clean and shampoo, shower gel, moisturiser and hand wash are all topped up every day. The main road is a tad noisy but that's what happens in any city accommodation and we just closed our window at night! Spare pillows were available as well as other bedding in the room itself and we had excellent tea and coffee making facilities. I always judge a B&B on whether it can be bothered to provide hot chocolate as well as the usual and they did! Excellent. The Belvedere was full while we were there; I think every night, and this meant that breakfast was a bit chaotic in the mornings. Space in the dining area is limited but staff worked extremely hard to accommodate everyone and apart from a bit of waiting and tight sharing on occasions, this was all fine. The food was lovely and the waiting staff were really efficient, friendly and hard working. They might benefit from opening up the spacious garden area with some seating to help alleviate this problem. If given the choice I will always prefer to sit outside to eat. Everyone we encountered from the owners to the cleaning ladies were helpful and cheerful. And I have to recommend the restaurant just a 2 minute walk up the road from the Belvedere - the Watermarq which is situated in a hotel. If this restaurant is closed or full the bar above serves food until 10pm every night. This is good to know when you arrive late or don't fancy getting in the car to drive out for food in the evening. The Belvedere is a little oasis of old fashioned loveliness, combined with excellent facilities and super staff. You get a good night's sleep and a proper breakfast with all the extra toast, juice, fruit and cereal you can eat on top of the 'full Irish'. If you are looking for a reasonably priced, good B&B in Cork, I wouldn't look any further.

We had a lovely room. Fresh linen every day. Good powerful shower. Toiletries in the bathroom were plentiful. Big flat screen telly on the wall. Breakfast was wonderful and staff very friendly. There was coffee/tea facilities in the room. Unfortunately I cannot drink caffeine but when I requested decaff coffee it was immediately made available to me. Somebody brought some in a little dish in my bedroom so I could have some for the rest of our stay (we stayed there 2 nights). Staff was friendly and helpful.

We were here for one night. Our room was spacious and also had a sun room as well as the bedroom. There is plenty of space for car parking, and a bus over the road will take you straight in to the city centre. We booked via expedia and breakfast was not included: we paid for breakfast (just under 10 euros each - there is no where else within walking distance to eat) and it was excellent. Most hotels and B&Bs do not provide fresh fruit (it is often tinned) but there was a feast of fresh fruit, toast, cereals, smoked salmon and cooked meals which reminded me of the meals Enid Blyton's Famous Five used to have. Staff in the dining area were friendly without being intrusive.

This was a nice experience overall. The rooms were spacious and we had our own bathroom. There is plenty of parking and for e1.70, the bus will take you into town from a nearby bus stop and will drop you off at the entrance to the Belvedere. Vincent was especially nice and provided plenty of information on Cork and how to best get around. There is a beautiful garden out back that you can go to for respid. The breakfast is hearty with a plentiful bar of cereals, breads, juices and pastries. The breakfast plates include scrambled eggs and a full Irish breakfast, which was splendid. *** However, we were somewhat taken aback when handed a bill for our breakfasts on our last day.*** We, too, would have chosen other restaurants had we known we would be charged this much for our meals. I would give a rating of 3.5 based on this last surprise.

Adequate accommodation, somewhat soulless. Taken aback after breakfast when sitting in nearby waiting area to hear staff member criticising my request for green tea and the fact that I went to my room for my own supply when none was available. Not nice to hear and has put me off staying again. Internet access poor. Nobody identified themselves to me and I wasn't sure if owners lived there or were available. Could even have been the owner ridiculing the guest!
