“Historical”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

Liked: architecture, history both ancient and modern, great guide, a sense of Cork involvement in the World wars, local wars, monastic settlement, wonderful stained glass windows depicting Old and New Testaments, a sense of how long it actually takes to build and furnish a cathedral - usually about a century.! Parking available for some cars.

“Really detailed!”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

It is a great find! The designer put a LOT of effort into this building and it is in every single detail of the catherdral, the statues, the entrance, lights, pillars, floor. It really is incredible. Costs E5 to venture in but you can be sucked in reading about it and looking at every piece of detail. Really beautiful find!

“Iconic building”
Reviewed November 19, 2012

I have always intended to visit St.Finbarre's, and last week took the opportunity. The cathedral can be seen from almost any part of Cork, and on entering the grounds the first impression is that this massive building is making a statement to the people of the city that it intends being on this site forever. Inside , there are numerous interesting historical references, and a prayer service was about to commence . I found the cathedral extremely dark, and unfortunately, unlike cathedrals I have visited on the continent, lacking in vitality.I usually enjoy visiting churches, be they Church of Ireland or Catholic, so I hope to make another visit to see if I feel any different.Having said that, it is still a "must see" in Cork.
