“Nice hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2009

Got this weekend break two years ago and I have to say it was very enjoyable. The staff at reception were excellent, speedy and friendly, stayed up for ages with the barman making us cocktails and the dinner in the restaurant was fabulous! Massive portions and very tasty! We went again for lunch a few months ago and I wasn't impressed with the lunch menu. When we asked for coke it was very flat and when we asked for another because it was flat they charged us for two. Obviously out of a hose. The reception and lounge area is fantastic and comfy, well separated seats for private conversations. The only downside was that the rooms were old fashioned, but the bed was lovely and comfortable, and a real double bed instead of two singles pushed together, and it was clean. The ensuite was fairly small and the view wasn't great. Also the swimming pool is located separate to the hotel which was a bit disappointing. Good for a night out in Cork if you don't want to pay the big prices.

Just got back from a lovely three night stay at the Silver Springs Hotel. First impressions were ok but on entering the hotel it really was lovely. We had a 3 night bed & breakfast package with 1 evening meal. Our room was great , spacious, modern and clean. The bathroom was a little dated compared to the bedroom but nevertheless cleaned and replenished by staff every morning.

Our meal was very nice but not a huge selection to choose from but I presume that was part of the package. Breakfast was nice but there could be a little more choice particularly with the cold buffet section.
We did not avail of the leisure facilities but if you were to you have a good 10 - 15 minute trek steep uphill all the way as the facilitesa are not in the hotel but on the grounds.

The hotel itself is located a 5 minute drive from the city centre about a 30 minute walk but we didn't mind. All in all a very nice friendly hotel to stay in.

  • Liked — The friendly staff and not in the city centre
  • Disliked — The lack of choice for dinner and breakfast

I stayed in this hotel in mid September with my partner. We decided to treat ourselves to the Queen Suite and we were very impressed with the quality and size of the bedroom/living area. The bed was HUGE and soo comfortable we never wanted to leave it and the T.V on the swivel wall was a nice touch. We recieved 2 complementary bottles of Jameson and bottled water on our arrival.
The only thing I would fault is the bathroom suite while the decor of the bathroom itself is up to date the jacuzzi tub could do with being replaced as it took a lot of messing about with the on/off button before it would actually work.
I would recommend this hotel for people looking to just get away for some R&R as travelling into the city cost us 8-10 euro each time we took a taxi. Its not far at all if you are driving but to walk it would be a little tiresome.
Overall I would say that its ideal for a lavish (I say that because of the price) weekend away, but its in a bad location for tourists looking to be close to all the action in the city centre

  • Liked — The wonderful bed, I want one of my own!
  • Disliked — Probably the faulty on/off switch on the Jacuzzi. But that was a minor detail.

I booked a "newly refurbished" room for 3 nights, last weekend and have never been so disappointed with a hotel room that I've wanted to cancel it, until now.

The bedroom decor was dated, the bed spreads were possibly the nicest thing in the room (?!!) and the bathroom was - no joke -like something from the 80's!!! It was the plainest bathroom I have ever seen and the black grout around the bath was just disgusting. So too was the damp around the window!

I complained to the manager and in fairness to her, she was lovely and very accommodating. She upgraded us to a suite (although we did pay a little extra) and it was just beautiful. The jacuzzi bathroom was the size of the "superior room" we had originally been given and there really was nothing you could fault this room for.

The bar and restaurant were grand. The bar is small but the couches around by the lobby are very comfy. The breakfast was horrible, cheap food! But the meal in the restaurant was gorgeous. The vegetable soup is to die for!!!

So.. If you're going to stay in this hotel, I'd recommend a suite, nothing else. The rest of the rooms are horrible.

My wife and I just got back from this hotel and I would say we were 80% happy

We arrived at 2 pm Friday and our room was not ready until 3:30 , not good as it had taken us 3 hours to get down and needed to freshen up

The room was nice modern and very clean

The food was only ok I'm so happy it was in the deal we had as I would have had a problem paying for what I had eaten

Saying that the breakfast was top notch B&B in this hotel is very nice

All the staff were very nice, some thing went wrong with our bill and we had been over charged by the computer so keep an eye on that

It was a ten-euro taxi ride to the city

Stayed at this hotel at the end of July for 3 nights. Has plenty of parking, ideal for anyone with a car to travel around Cork or anyone who wants to be near the City.
The hotel isn't much to look at from outside so inside is a surprise. Lobby, bar, Lounge area and Restaurant are very mod, clean and comfortable. Rooms are clean and simple, plasma tv with various channels.
Only disappointment was the Bathroom some few modifications would make a big difference.
Food in the restaurant and bar was fab would return just for that. Staff were friendly but we did our own thing for the three days so didn't have much interaction with staff. Since it was raining most of the time, the leisure facilities seemed too much hassle to use and too far away. All in all the hotel was perfect for what we needed a base to tour around Cork.

Visiting friends in Cork and stayed at this hotel for a long weekend. The exterior isnt great but the inside makes up for it - lovely reception area, cool spacious bar, and the restaurant is great. Breakfast was a varied selection and plentiful - we actually got warm plates which seems to be a thing of the past.

The room was very clean, modern and had a good powerful shower. It also had a safe which was extremely handy.

Would certainly recommend this hotel to friends and colleagues.
