Myself and my wife stayed in the butter market b+b overnight for 1 night a few weeks ago. I have to say it was a very enjoyable experience..The owners are so friendly we could have talked to them all day..The localion is ideal..right in the city centre and there is private secure parking at the house..The rooms are big and very clean, the breakfast was lovely too..will definitly be going back again.

Martin and Margaret are the best! My husband and I are huge Rory Gallagher fans and Martin drove us out to where Rory is buried just outside of Cork, which was very moving to me and one of the highlights of our trip. By the way all you Rory fans, Martin went to school with Rory!
I got sick while in Cork and Martin not only made me a doctor's appointment on a Saturday, but drove my husband and I to the doctor and waited for us. I was a bit on edge during this trip because I was ill, but Martin and Margaret assured me that they would get me to the hospital if worse came to worse (which thankfully it didn't). But just having their support put me more at ease.
In addition, Martin knows a great deal about Irish history and recommended lots of things for us to do. The breakfast was very good and the room was very clean. They also have a border collie, Sammy, which was great for us because we miss our dog on trips. But I'm sure Sammy is put away for non-dog people. The B & B is located in the historical center which is very quiet as opposed to the shopping/pub area of Cork which is great fun, but would be noisy to sleep in at night. There is a nice restaurant just a couple of steps away from the front door. A million times I would recommend the Butter Market House!!!

If you want to discover the personality of Cork, then you'll enjoy staying in this historic family-run Cork guesthouse. A warm welcome from Martin is guaranteed, as is a spotless room, a great Irish breakfast, no traffic noise and a location within a few minutes walk of the town centre. Not to mention as much advice on the locality as you want.

To be honest, i think Martin and Margaret are the best hosts you can ever find. They are really lovely and caring, always up for help, ideas (even if its about medicine..) and a little chat or a history lesson of Cork and the county.
The rooms and the bathroom were very clean, the bed very comfortable. It is actually a very quiet area, you can be sure to find good rest in this B&B.
Full Irish breakfast + toast, cereal and alot more was provided, as the other user said: it was enough to last way beyond lunch (and very tasty!)
Buttermarket house is located only <5 minutes walk from the city centre and only 3 minutes from the best pub of Cork: Sin E (take a look once you are there, they have great live music sessions)

Martin and Margaret, thank you for making our stay in your B&B so amazing, we will most certainly come back again ! Maria & Martin

This is a wonderful B&B located in the old Buttermarket square of the Shandon district on the North side of the Lee, in Cork city. Narrow streets and lanes, timeless multicoloured buildings side by side, quiet, and a district hovering between conservation of the past and gentrification of the newly renovated. A great combination for a stay, and our first time in Cork. The view over Cork city from the rear parking space is panoramic and worth photographing.
We had two very restful nights. Conversations with our host were very friendly and informative. The place was immaculate. Breakfast was enough to last way beyond lunch.
Just a great place, which we will be back to when next in Cork.

Room Tip: Our room faced the Buttermarket (Firkin Crane). Very quaint, very clean.

Very nice place to stay! Close to the city centre (5 minutes walk), just opposite the Cork Butter Museum (very interesting!), in a quiet and silent location. Hosts are really kind and helpful! The room was very clean and spacious, the best one we found in our tour in Ireland. Very good and abundant full-Irish-breakfast included in the rate.
We strongly recommend this B&B!

This was our first time staying at a B & B and we really enjoyed the atmosphere. The room was clean and quiet. Martin was a gracious host during our stay and offered us a home-cooked breakfast as well as interesting history about the house and area. The experience has definitely made us more likely to seek out B & B's in the future.
