Owner description: Situated 8km from Cork City, this historic castle is most famous for its stone, which has the traditional power of conferring eloquence on all who kiss it. The word Blarney was introduced into the English language by Queen Elizabeth I and is described as pleasant talk, intended to deceive without offedning. The stone is set in the wall below the battlements, and to kiss it one has to lean backwards (grasping an iron railing) from the parapet walk. LAST ADMISSION IS 60 MINS BEFORE CLOSING TIME

“Must see!”
Reviewed November 21, 2013

Of course kissing the Blarney stone was a must do but there is so much more to see here. The grounds and gardens are absolutely beautiful. Like a fairyland. Plan on spending several hours here.

“Blarney Castle & Grounds the best stop in Ireland”
Reviewed November 21, 2013

This was one of the stops on our tour of Ireland with Gate 1 Travel and was my absolute favorite! The castle is awesome….so much history and so well restored. The people are staff are very knowledgeable and friendly as is everyone we met! The village was well-maintained and gave a great insight into early life in Ireland. The gardens though…..ahhhh….even in November, absolutely gorgeous. I told my husband, I felt as if I were walking into a fairy tale….I certainly understand why folks people believe in leprechauns and magic here. Kissing the Blarney Stone? Well let's just say I haven't stopped talking since about what a wonderful trip we had!

“Blarney Castle”
Reviewed November 21, 2013

Beautiful castle and grounds and a must see on any trip to Ireland. The walk up to the top was a little tight but the view from the top is amazing.

“1 of the Top 5 castles to see on your trip!”
Reviewed November 19, 2013

We saw many castles, ruins and historical sites on our recent week long trip throughout Ireland in early November. I recommend the Blarney Castle absolutely! I do, however, have some caveats.

The grounds were lovely, sprawling and well kept. We waited behind only two other people to kiss the Blarney Stone but I cannot imagine waiting in a long line in the tiny, narrow stone spiral staircase. If you visit at peak season, I have heard horror stories of long lines.

Also, kissing the Blarney Stone is certainly not an easy thing to do if you are the least bit afraid of heights or falling to your death. You will be laying on your back being held by a park employee (ours was an older gentleman) and must bend down backward to kiss the stone. The trek up the castle is not easy either and I do not recommend it for any one with difficulty climbing stairs or uneasy on their feet.

Even if you don't kiss the stone, still worth the visit and better than Bunratty!

“so much scary fun!”
Reviewed November 19, 2013

this was a treat--i wasnt expecting to have as much fun as we did. i am very scared of heights and it was a challenge for me to go through the entire castle, but def worth it. gorgeous views! kissing the blarney stone was something ive always wanted to do, and it was def a cool adventure. it was raining however, and the spiral, narrow stairs were slippery. there were ropes to hang on to on the way up. i didnt know if i would make it. i was a little surprised there wasnt more warning about the climb up the castle--there were people entering of all ages and while i understand they can still enjoy the gardens, i think everyone should have been aware of how slippery and sort of dangerous it is to go all the way up. maybe i just missed any signs. the gardens were pretty, the poison garden was cool to stroll through. i didnt think the explanations of the blarney stone were well written--which is very ironic since kissing the stone should give you the gift of eloquence. it was a blast and i am glad we went
