Temple Gate Hotel

My husband and I stayed in Ennis for one night on our way up Ireland's west coast. Luckily, we ended up being in town for the last day of the town's street festival, so there was plenty to see and do. Temple Gate was in the perfect location and we could easily make our way around town on foot.
Preacher's Pub, located in the hotel, was great! Both the food and atmosphere were perfect for an afternoon break.
The hotel staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend staying at Temple Gate.

I chose Ennis for the locale and was disappointed, not much to do. The hotel was nice for 1 night with the exception of a cold-water shower. I called the lobby but there was no way to "fix it" for the night.

We arrived at the hotel much before normal check in time; however, the staff did their best to get us a room as soon as possible,as they recognized we had flown over the Atlantic last night and missed a night's sleep.
We did not eat there a second time after a very poor and expensive breakfast the first day.
However, the staff and the quietness of the room made up for the meal issue

Easy to find and parking OK. Was fairly quiet when we stayed, Good room with clean and tidy décor. We had our evening meal in the hotel bar which was good value and good quality.
Staff very good. Good location.

Room Tip: A decent meal at a reasonable price....

It's a very nice hotel with lots of amenities, whose other great advantage is being in Ennis. Ennis is a great base for exploring Clare. We did one day on the West coast for the Caherdaniel Fort, the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher. The next day we went South to Kilrush for a dolphin boat tour, with lunch at The Strand in Kilkee. The fish and chips at The Strand were considered one of the best meals of the trip as the cod was so wonderful. The next day we headed East to find family farms and Lough Derg, home of Brian Boru. In Ennis, there was a music festival, which was fun to see the families with children and grandparents all dancing to the music. The Temple Gate has really good food in the pub and restaurant, which is important when you've returned from a day of exploring and just want to relax. Since the hotel is large for Ennis, they cater to tour groups on buses. This generally has no ill effect on the workings of the hotel, and you aren't inconvenienced at all, but be prepared to watch tired and nasty Americans browbeating the staff because their room isn't ready but it's only 6:00 am. Still on US time, I'd gone down to the lobby and witnessed my fellow Americans acting badly. I was compelled to suggest to my countrymen that they check their bags and stroll around the pretty town for a bit. On our arrival day, we'd gone directly to Temple Gate at 9:00 am, just in case they had our room ready. They are obviously ready for this as their cleaning staff had our rooms ready very shortly after the previous guests left. They were spotless.

Room Tip: My room was facing the Square between the hotel and visitor's center. I did hear people hanging...

I stay regularly at this lovely hotel and have facilitated a significant number of workshops also using the facilities and conference/meeting rooms.
I can honestly say that this hotel has always exceeded expectations... from the warmth of the greeting at reception (usually from the inimitable Catherine!) to the excellent support from Graham and Balazs in organising meeting rooms to the lovely food (and excellent pint!) provided by friendly bar & restaurant staff... the bedrooms are of a very high standard, impeccably clean, bright and extremely comfortable. Geraldine skilfully manages this superbly run hotel and deserves great credit. The Temple Gate is in a lovely central location with direct immediate access to the delightful centre of one of the friendliest towns in Ireland. A really great hotel with great people in a great town.

Room Tip: Just ask Catherine or Claire or Elaine!

Hotel needs to streamline reception process and improve on welcome. Rooms quite comfortable and clean, choice of TV channels depressing. Restaurant a little soleless but food OK. Given its history there could be more atmosphere. Parking and location good.
