“Excellent hotel”
Reviewed February 4, 2014

Just returned from a weekend in Clare having stayed in The Old Ground, the staff, the food, and the hotel could not have been better, the weather could have been, but it was a good excuse to sit by the lovely fire looking out at the rain, Second time there and we will be back,

Room Tip: We had a lovely ground floor room never heard a sound.

We stayed 1 night in the Brendan O'Regan suite. What an absolutely beautiful room with sitting room, bedroom and bathroom. Immaculately clean and the bed was extreemly comfy. I had the best nights sleep. Location is excellent. You can exit onto the main street via the bar. Breakfast was superb with a great selection of beautiful foods. The huge asset to this hotel is its staff and in particular the reception staff. They were so genuine and friendly and you get the feeling they have loads of time for you. Very helpful. We dined in the town hall. Food was beautiful and staff were lovely. Our only fault was the tables location where we were seated. We were directly opposite the main door behind a table with wine bottles on it. Everytime the door opened we were hit with a cold draught. It kinda ruined the experience. In fairness staff try to minimise the disturbance by pulling curtains in front of the door but it wasnt sufficient. I suggested to staff maybe having a little partican opposite the door blocking the draught but dont know if it would be something they would do. Best to request seating away from door when booking. All in all we loved our stay and would definitely stay again.

Stayed for a long weekend. The Old Ground is a welcoming rural grand old town hotel well placed for visiting the many attractions of Co. Clare. During this stay it rained most of the time but I have visited before. From the moment you walk in to the time one leaves the service is correct casual, friendly and efficient. The rooms are very comfortable and clean with well equipped en suites. The residents lounges have comfortable furniture and open fires that provide a nice home from home ambience. An extensive menu is available in the lively Poets Corner bar along with terrific service for both drinks and food. There are a number of days when live music is performed here also. Breakfast is a buffet with main orders taken at the table, if you can handle it the Full Irish is a treat!! The Old Ground is like a pair of old slippers easy to slip into, comfortable with a small amount of fraying around the edges which adds to the appeal. My second visit and I hope not my last. Happy Returns?...it was my birthday treat.

On entering The Old Ground, there is a great buzz about the place, theres a warmth and staff are busy busy but yet have time to give. We stayed in a lovely suite on the 2nd floor - very bright, airy and spacious. Decor was calm and relaxed. No matter what time of day or night you passed through the bar - it was buzzing with diners and drinkers alike. There is a lovely open fire near reception and lots of couches and chairs. Breakfast room is very busy and overspill can dine in The Town Hall..we did on day 2..nice and calm. Lots of staff..in fact we are asked 4 times what we wanted for breakfast even though we were just eating our cereal / fruit..why do waiting staff always bring tea and TOAST when you just sit at the table..I find this is wasted..this goes for a lot of hotels not just this one..its a general comment. Clare people are very friendly, this adds to the attraction of this hotel - they seem to be happy going about their work. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Ennis - it is a home from home feel about it

We bought a package that included breakfast. Every morning we were treated to a full Irish breakfast complete with treacle bread and marmalade.
When we returned in the evening we were served tea and cookies by the fire. The experience could not have been any better.

Dear Kathbren,

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with such positive feedback which I am delighted to share with our team. There has been a great atmosphere in the hotel in January and we were especially pleased that Paolo Tullio voted the Town Hall as the best value restaurant in the country. We will continue to work hard to ensure that our customers have a great experience and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

We booked a King Suite for 3 nights over the Christmas period. This was our 2nd visit to the Old Ground and certainly wont be our last. The room was excellent, clean and spacious. The staff were also very pleasant and knowledgeable, both at reception and in the Poets Corner Bar. We dined in the Town Hall restaurant one night and can honestly say it was one of the best meals we have ever experienced.

I cannot think of a single negative from our stay, an easy 5 stars.

Room Tip: We had room 220, a king suite at the front of the hotel overlooking the garden and across to the Chu...
