“Old Ground Hotel Ennis”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2013

My wife and I stayed at the Old Ground Hotel for a two night package deal in July, 2 BB and 1 Dinner. The staff could not be friendlier and the food in the restaurant and bar was excellent. We would highly recommend this hotel and intend to return soon, which is always a good measure of value for money.

However, do avoid staying in a room on the road/bar side of the hotel. We requested to be moved after the first night because of the noise from the street. This was not an issue for the hotel and they could not have been better to us. Overall it is a great location for the town, with some lovely streets for shopping during the day and within short driving distance to all major tourist must see locations in Clare. The Old Ground Hotel gets if 5 stars for the great staff, nice rooms and excellent location.

Room Tip: Request the back of the hotel

My first impression of this hotel is "WOW". It is like a big mansion / private resident with beautiful garden setting located right opposite the church. We were a little confused with the entrance though, at first we went into the bar, the the other side was the restaurant. We had to asked for direction to check in. Apparently it was on the other side of the bar with a huge gate. I was thinking it was a private resident!

The reception area has a cozy waiting area. The reception staff told us we should park our car inside the hotel compound ( we parked by the church as we could not find the entrance of this hotel)

Our room was clean and in good size. finally, we had a real king size bed that was comfortable!

Bathroom was huge with a bathtub and stand up shower, again with the half glass door by the tub, I could not keep the floor dry after my shower.

The car park and wifi was complementary.

We needed a place close to the airport. Old Ground fit the bill.
We had a big quiet room. Good bed.
The view from the back side is not great.
Irish fry for breakfast costed 20e. it was expensive but tasted good.
Good beer and food in the restaurant attached to the Hotel.

Thank you for visiting and taking the time to give us valuable feedback. We recently added some very special items to our regular, traditional, popular Irish Breakfast Menu which are freshly cooked to order in our kitchen. A choice of these items together with freshly baked breads, fruits, cereals, fruit scones, yogurts and juices from the buffet is served for the great value price of Euro 12 per person. Please contact us if there was an error in your bill and we will check out immediately. Popular new items on the menu include Seasonal Berries Smoothie with Crinnaughtan Apple Juice, Toasted Oats with Strawberry Compote & Natural Yogurt, Baked Portabello Mushroom with Tomato, Basil, Baked St. Tola's Goat's Cheese & Toasted Pine Nuts, Scrambled Eggs with Kenmare Smoked Salmon and Freshly Grilled Fillets of Plaice with Lime Herb Dressing

Myself, husband and mother have just spent three nights in The Old Ground. It was our second visit there in the past few years.. The staff here are amazing- nothing is too much trouble for them. They are so pleasant all the time and couldn't do enough for us. We ate in the main dining room for the three nights. The food is superb- beautifully presented and so tasty. Compliments to the chefs!Breakfast is great too. Our room was spacious with TV ,iron, ironing board , hairdryer and kettle. What more could you ask for! We can't wait to go back again.

I informed the management that this would be our last stop in Ireland on our trip to celebrate our 40th anniversary.

When we opened the door to our unbelievably fairly-priced suite, we were greeted with a plate of fresh fruit, sparkling water, and a lovely note from management. This room was spectacular! A huge, four-poster bed, luxury mattress and pillows, two sofas...wow! The bathroom was a good size (tip: double flush the toilet...the first pump of the handle seems to prime things...we've noticed that at this hotel two other times).

The only issue we had was the extreme heat...despite open windows and the extreme comfort of the bed, we really had a bad night's sleep...again, though, that can't be planned for, I guess.

The POET'S CORNER pub provided us a delicious meal, wonderful bar service, and a somewhat-mediocre seisun (as I said...we've been here before and the seisuns have been mighty before this own) consisting of three very young guys who, while talented, were much more interested in the hurling match on the TV.

Highly recommended establishment...adequate parking...terrific location!

We received a warm welcome at the front desk, with friendly and efficient service. My request for an early check-in was accommodated, which was a real bonus after a long overnight flight from the US.

Overall, the room and property were clean, but a little dated. The bed, unfortunately, was not the most comfortable that I've slept in. We had breakfast at the hotel in the morning as a matter of convenience before hitting the road. It was a real lackluster experience and not worth the extra time or expense. Still, the hotel is a decent choice for that price range and location.
