“Great place to Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2013

Stayed here two nights in April. Location is convenient to the center of town. Staff was very helpful. Sitting rooms on first floor have character and are a great spot for passing time and people watching. Poet's Corner Bar has good ambiance and one night during our stay had traditional music. Only complaint was one bed very close bathroom door. Very good shower and bathtub.

Invitation to a family wedding we decided to make it a 6 day break . Our first stop was a 2 night stay in the Old Ground hotel in Ennis Co . Clare. It is right in the centre of town and an old world establishment full of charm . For us we like a nice big foyer with plenty of seating so you can watch the world go by or just sit after breakfast with the morning paper
Rooms and staff , both restaurant and bar could not be faulted . Food wise we had one bar food meal and one dinner menu in the restaurant - both excellent

Ennis is a wonderful medieval town and a great base to visit Clare (unbiased Donegal mans opinion ) .If you do visit don't forget to visit the Clare County Museum- well worth a visit and the tourist office is in the same building and they could not be more helpful

As a coach driver I visit quite a number of hotels on my travels. Stayed one night in this hotel and found the staff, from reception to bar very helpful indeed. They went out of there way to help me and my travellers. Great meal in the bar and the breakfast 1st class. Overall a good experience.

Ate in the Bar here last weekend and it was NOT good, place feels dirty, food was awful, I left most of my food and when the lady serving us cleared the table she didn't ask was everything OK, clearly it was not, most the food that arrived at our table at the start was still there when we had finished, Staff here work very hard, flying left and right, smiling through it all, it is a busy spot that seems to be popular with the locals but in my opinion the food is very poor, the place is unclean and the service is only ok, would not return or recommend this place to eat or stay.

This hotel was part of a tour arranged by Harp and Eagle. We could not have been more happy with the accommodations. The breakfasts were wonderful, the staff was very gracious and helpful, the pub atmosphere was charming. The fine dinning was exceptional. The room was very comfortable, clean, and quite. All and all we were not disappointed in any way.

We stayed for a night in midweek and would love to have stayed longer. The whole experience was great starting with such a wonderful welcome from the reception staff. After a long drive from Belfast our room was not ready but I needed a room to change for a meeting, and was given one straight away to use, without charge.
The Poets Bar is full of atmosphere and so busy at lunchtime but the staff are incredibly helpful and quick-the food is really very good. Value for money and enormous plates full!!
We stayed in one of the suites that was very nicely prepared, spacious and with a great gas fire. The bathroom had separate bath and shower with plenty of hot water.
We ate next door at the Town Hall which is owned by the hotel, see separate blog. Breakfast in the hotel was first rate.
The only problem we had which in a way speaks volumes of the hotel is that getting parked mid day in their large car park id very frustrating!!

Room Tip: Go for one of the suites-well worth it and still good value for money

Spent the Easter break at the Old Ground Hotel. This is a very good hotel, has the old standards that make this hotel what it is. The reception staff are on the ball, very quick check in, very pleasent and efficent staff.Rooms very comfortable and clean.House keeing staff vey good at their job and very nice with it.

Just one small dissappointment, we were a party of 4 and a baby could not get a table for food in the bar, I know it was very busy and pot luck if you could grab a table, waited ages we were not lucky, however ate up town so it was no problem really.

Room Tip: Book early for this hotel.
